Dust off your crab claws and polish your fish knives… We’ve dragged a net through the hundreds of fish and seafood restaurants in London to find the best catches the city has to offer. Fish and seafood dishes are famous for their simplicity, but notoriously difficult to get right: a tad overcooked or too much fuss applied, and these sacred natural ingredients are ruined. So for the best slippery-salt oysters or a piled-high plate of good ol’ fish and chips, we’ve got everything from nostalgic seaside-style haunts through to some of London’s most polished fine dining spots.

1. Angler

Liverpool Street

Laying claim to one of East London’s elusive Michelin stars, Angler tops our poll as the best fish & seafood restaurant in London. This pristine 7th floor hideaway is clad in the stony greys and shimmering mirrors that almost resemble fish scales, while their foliage-lined roof terrace offers views of the Gherkin and Tower 42.

2. Outlaw’s at The Capital

Knightsbridge

Slap bang between Harvey Nichols and Harrods, Outlaw’s at The Capital is headed up by much-lauded fish master, Nathan Outlaw. Sourcing fresh-off-the-boat Cornish catches from trawler-men who are known personally the chefs, head chef Pete Biggs and namesake Nathan Outlaw have crafted a menu of supremely simple dishes.

3. Wiltons

St James’s

Named Zagat’s Best Seafood Restaurant in 2013, Wiltons has stood as a London dining landmark since 1742. Wiltons’ oysters have become a thing of legend, and you’ll find delicacies like locally-smoked fish and top-end caviar on their bold, fish lovers’ menu. Luxury lifestyle magazine Tatler bestows Wiltons restaurant with the ultimate praise, stating that if they ‘could only ever eat at one London restaurant again, it would be here’.

4. Wright Brothers

Soho

A well-established fleet on the fish & seafood circuit, Wright Brothers serves sumptuously fresh dishes with creative Asian accents. Found nestled in Kingly Court, just off Carnaby Street, expect to find fresh oysters shipped in from the restaurant’s own farm in Cornwall, while other catches are cherry picked from across the British Isles.

5. Raw – Great Portland Street

Raw is a seafood restaurant and cocktail bar in central London. Popular dishes include tuna tartare sea buns, sea bream ceviche and rock oysters. The cocktail bar has a seafood theme too with cocktails such as Kombu Seaweed Martinis and Nori Pisco Sours on offer.  Another quirky addition is that Raw, Great Portland Street has it’s own fishmonger counter, if you’re after some lovley fresh seafood to take home with you.
