The cooking is quite good standard. We ordered the lobster which is well cooked and very fresh. The only comment is they should have more Shanghai dishes to match their restaurant name. It will then be 5 stars from me.

We read some good reviews and liked what we saw in terms of ambience and busyness, however, my food was a huge disappointment—around £13:50 for a plate of rice with a neglible amount of spinach and zero flavour and no sauce. Also, the sweet and sour was so sccharine sweet that my party all felt ill after eating it.

Service was quick but food was just okay. Pork xiao long bao were good, as was teriyaki chicken, but crispy noodles were a bit bland. Unfortunately much atmosphere.

A popular busy restaurant. Food was tasty, especially liked the shrimp dumplings and sweet & sour pork. Service was fine, team communicated well with one another.

We came for the dim sum, but many of the dishes were unavailable. The food was rather good, but not as good as I thought it would be. The custard buns were really good.

The dumplings here are some of the best I’ve ever had! Real good quality Chinese cooking here, amazing broths and we loved the super cute Tiger buns for Chinese Lunar New Year! Service was great too, so efficient.

The food was delicious, hot, came really fast. Felt a little rushed to leave, would probably have ordered more but the menu was taken when I ordered. Felt uncomfortable asking to order more food. The food is definitely worth going again.

We were keen to visit Shanghai Modern after seeing their famous 'piggy buns' on social media. However, when we ordered them, they then served plain buns and said they'd run out. We found this a little disappointing as they didn't mention this when we actually ordered, however, they were still delicious! Hopefully we can try them in the future as they look adorable.

Our party were welcomed to the restaurant and served drinks within minutes of sitting down. It wasn't busy but still worth saying the service was great and our 2 waiters very friendly. Quite basic surroundings but very clean. We settled on the biggest set menu (B) and we all thought the food was great. I will definitely be going again

Great food. A few dishes I thought were quite expensive… a plate of pak cho was nearly £10. Otherwise the dishes were fabulous and tasty. One friend is a smoker… she put on her coat to go outside for a cigarette… that prompted one of the staff, without asking, to present us with the bill…. We hadn’t even had our dessert. The restaurant itself is rather basic and our bill came out @£38 per head. Would I go back? Absolutely!
