3/10Very poor service. Noen actully. Wine tastet bad (could not have been chardonnay, as we ordered. Was asked «could We tale the plates, before We had etaten up. Paied for rice, but only got a very small portion. Other tables got much bigger boles. Went for water. Was asked to sit down. Not in a polite way. Place was noicy, and door was Open, so We got very cold. Went there because of good rating. Booked a table, but was very dissapointed. Go somewhere else.

Wide selection of food - we’ve tried beijing duck, various dumplings, chicken and veg noodles - acceptably good. Plastic tables in an uninspiring environment. Quick and kind service.

It was quite nice. The food was a bit expensive but the portion size and taste made well up for it. It is one of the better establishments in Londons Chinatown

Food is truly amazing and the dim sum excellent. Service is a little bit rushed but not too much. Ambiance is nice . I will go back for sure and will enjoy again the signature “piggy” dim sum!

10/10This is my favourite Chinese restaurant in the UK! The food is spectacular, and so is the staff very quick service and a range of food options. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. My favourite dish is the pork soup dumplings, truly out of this world.

8.5/10The cooking is quite good standard. We ordered the lobster which is well cooked and very fresh. The only comment is they should have more Shanghai dishes to match their restaurant name. It will then be 5 stars from me.

5/10We read some good reviews and liked what we saw in terms of ambience and busyness, however, my food was a huge disappointment—around £13:50 for a plate of rice with a neglible amount of spinach and zero flavour and no sauce. Also, the sweet and sour was so sccharine sweet that my party all felt ill after eating it.

8.5/10The food was delicious and was great to be in the heart of Soho, nice service too. We have the pekingese duck, prawns in lemon sauce and crispy seaweed.

4.5/10Service was quick but food was just okay. Pork xiao long bao were good, as was teriyaki chicken, but crispy noodles were a bit bland. Unfortunately much atmosphere.

8/10A popular busy restaurant. Food was tasty, especially liked the shrimp dumplings and sweet & sour pork. Service was fine, team communicated well with one another.

9/10The dumplings here are some of the best I’ve ever had! Real good quality Chinese cooking here, amazing broths and we loved the super cute Tiger buns for Chinese Lunar New Year! Service was great too, so efficient.

7/10We were keen to visit Shanghai Modern after seeing their famous 'piggy buns' on social media. However, when we ordered them, they then served plain buns and said they'd run out. We found this a little disappointing as they didn't mention this when we actually ordered, however, they were still delicious! Hopefully we can try them in the future as they look adorable.

7/10Average food, great service that justified the automatically added 12.5% service charge, good al fresco space in a lively Chinatown square. Atmosphere spoilt at one point by owner/manager who was also sitting outside playing a video very loudly on his mobile without appearing to consider the effect on his customers.

10/10This is our first time have dim sum lunch at Shanghai Modern , we're enjoying the excellent service , and the dim sum were very nice especially the pink roast pork buns, it looked so cute and delicious to eat. We enjoyed the clean and social distancing environment and staff were following gov guideline in delivering services , well done , we shall come again

Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Chinatown! As a Shanghainese person, the food was a lovely taste from home (except the shengjianbao which seemed to have come from a frozen packet). The service from the waiters was particularly good and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!
