Excellent
The staff were charming as ever, but the wait was far too long and the food disappointing. They are trading on their reputation achieved a long time ago.
The food and drinks were excellent,as was the service. Recommended a lovely wine from the waitress after the one I selected was not available. My only complaint, and I brought this up whilst dining, was the lack of warmth in the outside dining area. Only selected tables had heaters and this was not sufficient to heat the outside area. I rarely feel the cold but left feeling chilled to the bone. It’s awkward in these difficult times but the table next to us were toasty warm with their heater whilst we were very chilly. Would be better if non-heated tables were advertised or if more heaters were available. I appreciate we can’t predict the weather but for some people no heater would make for an unpleasant experience ( we were rather hardy!)
This restaurant never disappoints. The food is always tasty and interesting and the staff friendly and attentive. Whenever I visit I always wonder why I don't come more often.
My wife and I really enjoyed our meal, and experience at English's. Firstly, the staff were responsive to our needs and able to offer us a slightly earlier dining time than we originally booked, which was helpful. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted by (the person who we assumed was) the restaurant manager. He took us to our table straight away. Our waiter arrived with menus straight away and offered us drinks. He was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt with his service throughout. I had (raw) oysters as a starter, and the fish and chips as a main. My wife had the mussels as a starter and the fish and chips as a main. Prior to this, we had some gluten-free bread and pate. All of the food was excellent - fresh, delicious and where appropriate, well cooked. Given the quality of the food and the experience, the prices are reasonable. Would certainly recommend, and come again.
Wonderful experience
Our favourite restaurant in Brighton. Superb seafood and fish, beautifully presented. Wine list is excellent.Staff are welcoming and professional. Like the traditional decor and the fact there is no loud music so you can actually chat without having to yell.
Our 2nd time visiting this restaurant. My boyfriend and I are from London but decided to go back and visit Brighton just for this gem! Lovely food and drinks, and the staff were very welcoming and efficient. Will 100% be back again when it’s possible!
Very good food beautifully presented and great service. We liked the range and quality of the food. The price was very good and they cater fir a variety of tastes but mainly seafood.
amazing food the fish pie was excellent. decided to order glasses of wine with each course wow the recommendations were brilliant. so good to have staff that know the menu and the wine list. the whole experience was perfect. We will be back soon.
Great little restaurant , excellent fish and steak nicely presented . Huge wine just - not cheap. We sat by a window I think sitting further back would be a bit claustrophobic. Staff were professional and lovely especially as we were celebrating two birthdays during Covid. Will definitely go again
Whenever I have visited before I have sat downstairs at the restaurant, upstairs towards the back doesn't have the same ambience. The food was as delicious as ever and the waiter very attentive & friendly. A good wine list also!
Love this restaurant, looking forward to going back already . Fantastic service and great food. Staff are very good at there job atmosphere is fantastic.
We visited Brighton on holiday and were thrilled with our meal at English's - the scallops and calamari were fresh, beautifully cooked and the service was first rate.
Service was amazing - food great - short notice booking for a special birthday - fantastic! Steak, oysters and steak & kidney pudding I would recommend.
Exceptional meal last Friday at English's. Fabulous service with lovely staff. The food was just outstanding from beginning to end. I would absolutely recommend it and would definitely go back if I was in Brighton again.
Very accomodating for gluten free meals. Good service and the waiter was warm and friendly. Attentive, topping up drinks when required. Food service was quick and most importantly it was delicious!
Nice old fashioned restaurant. Wonderful to have candles on each table but why such strong overhead lighting too? Nice staff. Good food. Would return.
Lovely old building nestling close by Royal Pavilion. Stairs to upper floor and ladies toilet very steep. Oysters were delicious as was the lobster starter on the set menu. Plaice also excellent but the cheesy sauce with the swordfish loin overpowered the fish flavour. Tirimisu and ice cream/sorbet very good.
Fabulous fresh seafood, very attentive without being overbearing staff and wonderful outside seating on a beautiful sunny day. Would highly recommend it.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and we were delighted we had chosen to book there. We had the three course menu each and thought it was good value.
