8/10A great range of options to choose from, absolutely delicious food and wine. Service very good however the ambience was somewhat lacking, we were seated upstairs in a quiet room with no music. Downstairs ambience was much better. For an upmarket restaurant a bit of music, although not too loud, would have made it feel a bit more special. However, the food was excellent, which was the main thing and we would go again.

9.5/10Wonderful find! Food and drinks were all delicious, well presented too. Lovely staff, very welcoming and attentive. Traditional restaurant, which we really enjoyed, relaxed ambience. Restaurant was full. Would have got 10 but the bill was initially overpriced so had to be re-done. But immediately resolved. Would visit again. Recommend.

10/10Fantastic meal and excellent service. We came here for our wedding meal during Covid and this time was for our 3rd wedding anniversary. Both times the staff were absolutely brilliant, as well as the food. We love the old-school vibe as well.

10/10Brilliant Restaurant - love it every time - this occasion was special celebrating what would have been my mother's 87 birthday - but she passed in May so we had Champagne and Lobster to celebrate her life - just fabulous - great location and wonderful staff and food. 10/10English’s is consistently one of the best restaurants I visit, if not the best. The seafood is wonderfully fresh and beautifully cooked, and the staff always warm, well informed, and welcoming. A great experience whether for a special occasion or informal lunch. They have something for everyone. Highly recommended.

5.5/10Have been to this restaurant on many occasions. Unfortunately todays experience did not come up to previous high standards. My husband had the potted crab starter and described the water melon that was served with this as disgusting. We had a shared hot platter which was nice but not worth the £78 price tag. The Eton mess was ok but nothing special for its cost. Altogether a disappointing lunch with a bottle of wine brought the cost to nearly £200 Noisy and sadly we will not be returning as we feel that standards have fallen. As previously said we have visited many times and didn’t receive a warm welcome Corporate and mechanical

10/10The new menu was an utter delight along with the staff. The MD has a wonderful manner and didn’t have a single complaint. Considering how much we had we were shocked at how reasonably priced it was.

10/10Fabulous lunch we all had the hot platter to share with excellent Rose wine . The whole experience was even better because of the exemplary service from Laura our waitress . I would highly recommend this restaurant.

9/10English’s was recommended to me and I am very grateful for the tip. Once you’ve found it, you’ll never lose it again but the exact location is a little tricky to find (it’s slightly tucked away). We were having different parts of the menu so went quite big on wine. Then thought we’d have oysters to go with the wine. After a glass or two, deep into the meal, we realised there’d been no oysters. We didn’t need them but I never found out why. Lovely food, quiet but attentive service, great setting. I might even wear a jacket next time; it’s that sort of place. If they’ll have us back. I don’t think there’s anywhere quite like it in Brighton. Make sure you book!

7/10Very quaint restaurant. Located in a very old building. That was likely a house at one time. They have a very nice selection of oysters, raw and cooked which were good. We were disappointed in the pot of muscles, however. They had absolutely no flavor whatsoever as far as seasoning, it was as if they were just boiled in water with some parsley. They were quite fresh and tender but no flavor. Service was very good and the ambience was nice, but there was no music and it was definitely quiet which is not good when you were trying to have a conversation and people are sitting right next to you

9.5/10We really enjoyed ourselves. Restaurant is cosy with charm. Service impeccable. Our fish was the freshest of the fresh, perfectly cooked and presented. We went for the summer set (throwback!?), menu…classical and do well done. A mainstay of Brighton- now we know why! We went for the set

10/10Fantastic restaurant nestled in the heart of Brighton, a real gem. The service is sublime, and so attentive that it allows you to focus on talking and delighting in the perfectly cooked and delightfully pared food. Thank you so much for making our evening so special. Josh turned to me as we left and said it was the best restaurant he had ever been to!

5/10The staff were friendly, but food was disappointing! We ordered the shared platter which we believed was £39. But it was actually £78 for two. This should say £78 for two instead of £39pp. Just a bit misleading. The waiter should have made that very clear when we ordered, as when I questioned the bill at the end, they even said then that a lot of people often get confused by It. So either change the menu or make it clear to your customers when they order. As there was far too Much batter for two people to eat. Just ruined our meal entirely! We could have ordered so many other fresh seafood for the price we paid!

10/10We have had a 3 day break in Brighton and googled Fish restaurants. The reviews pointed us to English’s . These reviews were spot on. Very traditional tasty menu . Very professional service and fantastic tasting food. Wish we had found you on the first night so we could have eaten there all 3 nights. Will definitely be back.

10/10We have visited this restaurant on more than one occasion. We visit Brighton once a year for a birthday celebration and usually try to get a table here. The food and service always meets expectations. A wonderful place that should be experienced.

10/10Our server today was very profession and made our dinning experience perfect. Prices are high end, but well worth the money, portions were big and all seafood were fresh and cooked well. A dated building with character. Highlight was the server, a value asset to the restaurant.
