6/10We thought that the cocktails were great. However we think that the food has gone downhill since our last visit. There wasn’t a hint of chile in my sausage sauce and the chips were like they’d come out of the freezer.

10/10Excellent ambience, excellent food, very good staff. My only criticism would be that the wine by the glass was rather expensive.

5.5/10The food (Wiener Schnitzel) was cold and tough and the coating just fell apart. The knife wasn't sharp. There was a draft. The tables were far too close together (just ask the waiters who couldn't get through). As a long time customer I was sorely disappointed

7.5/10Dropped in for drinks & dinner after work on a Thursday. The main upstairs bar was closed for a function which did somewhat take the edge off the occasion as we had to crowd round the downstairs bar. My Manhattan was more of an Old Fashioned but tasty. Food was decent without being spectacular. Service was fair.

10/10Great food, delicious wheat beer, very friendly and helpful staff; LAUREN & RICARDO were a highlight of our night at one of our favourite places to eat in London. The German Gymnasium has a real great atmosphere;))

7.5/10The service at reception and table were first class. Drinks were served quickly and nicely chilled. The food came quickly, was well presented, hot and very tasty and well cooked. The only problem encountered, and I accept it was cold outside, was the restaurant was cold. The draught through the front door meant my legs were cold the whole evening and the food cooled down more quickly than you would expect. This was clearly nobody’s fault but someone needs to take a look at how this could be improved. It won’t stop us visiting again but it did spoil what was otherwise a lovely birthday experience for my wife.

4.5/10I am writing this as despite visiting many times over the years I was going today for lunch upstairs as usual only to be told this is no longer available during the week when l called by yesterday to reconfirm!! Don’t take phone bookings and then not tell the truth GG, you have lost a repeat customer and one who had recommended you to others ! BTW the man on reception yesterday when l called in around midday did not care or apologise , and in this Environment he should be more thoughtful! I went to Barrafina in Coles Yard instead and it was cheaper ! I understand that costs have to be cut, but frankly downstairs is not good enough and often tables are not cleared.

6.5/10The starter portions of smoked salmon were very small indeed, not good value. The prices in the wine list were exhorbitant, we didn't buy any. The main courses were excellent, but were tepid, we prefer hot food. In conclusion, we have visited many times in the past but probably not again any time soon.

6/10The service was good and very efficient. The food was just ok, could’ve been hotter. So disappointing to get cold, very ordinary sliced white bread/toast in a place with such character. Thought the breakfast menu was quite limited . Beautiful building and a nice, lively vibe .

3.5/10Despite receiving 2 x emails to say my reservation was confirmed when my partner arrived 30 mins before me the lady on reception said there was no booking under my name therefore she could not be taken to our table. She asked if there was other tables available so that she could wait for me to arrive and they asked her to wait in the reception area. She waited over 20 minutes which she was very uncomfortable with. She tried phoning me but as I was on the train had no reception. Five minutes before I arrived she was offered a seat near the bar. I then arrived and spoke to reception about my booking. They again said we have no reservation. I showed them the email confirmation but they would not accept I'd booked a table for 1pm. I was then also left stood in the reception area for around 10 minutes. The receptionist returned and asked me to join my partner at the bar while they looked into it further. We ordered a drink from the bar and never had lunch. Poor experience

4/10One very thin slice of smoked salmon in the starter and a pool of strong mayo dressing in the other. Main courses - potato was cold, duck was tough and a dumpling thing was cold and inedible

8.5/10service was great until we had finished our main course and then we waited and waited but eventually had to ask someone to take our dessert order. the same happened with the bill and even with paying. a real shame.

8/10Accessibility has not been thought about. The restaurant asked me for feedback but have not responded to my comments. I went with my sister who is partially sighted. She was not able to go to the toilet without me as no clear pathway had been left. We had to ask diners to move chairs but even then squeeze between chairs and occupied bar stools. There were coats and bags strewn on the floor making it even more hazardous. The toilets themselves were full of mirrors, making it quite confusing for anyone. I provided this information to the restaurant when asked and would usually not be public in my criticism. However as I have not received any response, I presume they didn't mean it when asking for feedback. I appreciate the need to squeeze in as many covers as possible but the message from the German Gymnasium is don't come here if you have mobility or sight issues. We are going out of our way to make this as difficult an environment for you as possible.

6/10Service was good. Food wasn’t testy but hey it’s German food after all but thought the restaurant would bring a bit of wow factor to the food but sadly not. I had the duck it was dry and overcooked felt pre cooked and ready made and not cooked enough per order. My husband had sausages and mash with sauerkraut which was basic. The wine was good but it was French. Sadly won’t be going there again

10/10Well looked after from arrival to departure. Chef even went out of his way to produce a special request that wasn't on that days menu. Service attentive and cheerful, management also on the ball and helping out.

6.5/10Always been a fan, but not a great experience this morning. Great looking venue, welcoming and competent staff, but mediocre coffee and disappointing food - ok - but not what it has been. I can’t complain about the refurb work going on - I was warned in advance and it was minimally disruptive.
