8/10Good food, though limited drink options (very little choice of beer, presumably to boost its wine options).

10/10Joe Allen - Covent Garden is always consistent! A go to place of the theatre community and well run by excellent management and the team. I had the Pate special and Chicken Milanese - both were freshly prepared and promptly served. Well work a visit to this London and New York institution!

9/10We found an amazing theatre lovers treasure trove behind an uninspiring facade due to scaffolding & outside works. Staff welcoming & accommodating to dietary needs. We choose from pre-theatre menu as well as Main. Food presentation good, moderate potions and tasty. Drinks menu offered good selection of cocktails too which were properly made. It’s London prices but great ambiance & set us up in good theatre going mode which is what we did next. A definite place to try out!

7/10We had pre-ordered online two Vegan 3-Course Set Menus for 2 at £30 each. On arrival Joe Allen’s said they did not offer such a set menu so we had to choose from the £33 3-Course menu. Fortunately fish was on the menu (we are pescatarians). No apology was offered. Suggest the online booking service is reviewed and changed if Vegan food is not on offer.

7.5/10Food was exquisite however the portions were too small and we all left hungry. We had ordered the 3 course set menu. I had soup to start - no bread accompaniment. Main course sea bass - no sides other than the garnish under the fish. It would have been nice if waitress had said that the set meal portions were miniscule and to suggest to order a few sides. I thought the service charge % was too high and should have been set at 10 or 12% maximum. The drinks were really expensive and cost a lot more than our food. There was a lovely ambience with the piano playing, food excellent ... but please Joe Allen Could I have some more ?

10/10We had an excellent evening that started well and got better. I’d requested a corner table which was provided and the service e throughout was top notch. Staff were attentive, helpful and fun. Menu had some interesting dishes, reasonably priced wines. A wonderful evening. We will be back.

2/10Unfortunately, it was absolutely awful, and there was hair in my food the man or the manager just looked at me and I was shocked, so I just said do what do you think is best so with a struggle to change the meal By that time. I lost my appetite. I didn't enjoy at all. The chips were burnt. And then I order some afters. Desert. Which was OK. But I would live in a go there again. Dreadful place only for drinking alcohol. Just a pub, that's all it is.

9.5/10This is the 4th lunch I've had at Joe Allen's. The food and service were excellent but the ambience was just a little bit down this time as it was not "buzzing" as it was on my first two lunches. Will certainly go again. It has a very good feel. Giles Webster

5/10The only thing that resembles the original restaurant was the pictures on the walls. The menu has changed hugely with an Italian bent now. The food was underwhelming and bland and poor value for the money.

10/10Perfect for pre theatre dinner. The service was excellent, attentive but not instrusive and the waiting time was short - important for the pre-theatre slot. Choice of a la carte and set menu with enough options to please most people. We enjoyed our meal here and will be back!

5.5/10Caesar salad had extremely dry chicken on a huge bed of iceberg with hardly any dressing. Was very mediocre. Apple crumble was horrific - hideous icing sugar sprinkled onto of stodgy barely there crumble.

9/10Fabulous food and a lovely waiter. The restaurant stopped serving drinks at 10.30 with no warning! The reason given was the rail strike! On leaving at 10.45 there were people in the bar drinking and we asked if it was now open and were rudely informed the bar was open just for staff!

10/10Joe Allen is my favourite restaurant in the theatre district. Friendly, great food and service. I have been going to Joe Allen for many years and it never disappoints. Great place to take an overseas visitor as well, the theatre ambience is second to none and it never fails to delight.
