This is the 4th time we have eaten here. The first two times were outstanding. The last 2 were disappointing because of mix ups with the order. Last night the staff were coping admirably with a really busy evening, and we understood that. However when my food came it was covered in the ingredient that I am allergic to. They took it away and recooked my meal but then my partner's meal was cold. When we pointed that out they took both meals away and reheated for us. I feel very strongly that the way allergies are dealt with needs addressing, and that good service would be to automatically ask if we would like both meals to be brought back together. Other than that the staff were really lovely and very keen to put things right.
When you attend a restaurant that carries a 'name' there is an expectation, this failed unfortunately. I had a better steak at Miller & Carter. The food was ok, personally for me it was nothing special, I had hoped for better. The service was ok, given the current social distancing - we were ontime, but our table was still occupied - given the current situation perceive that how you wish - overall acceptable I guess, but I will be heading elsewhere for a decent steak.
In one word .... brilliant!!!!!
Food disappointing and sauce came 15 minutes after the steak. The large groups were not abiding by government guidelines and walking around The restaurant without masks and not once challenged by staff. Altogether not a pleasant experience. Will not be returning
Everything about this restaurant was great. The place was clean and smelled good. The staff and greeter was very nice. Our waiter was awesome, the staff also worked as a team in bringing and cleaning up our food. The food was fresh and awesome. Then we also had dessert and that was really good as well. Great atmosphere with really nice people I am definitely going back again soon
A lovely restaurant the food was excellent, nice staff and atmosphere, my only complaint would be very slow service, it’s my only disappointment Just not enough staff, but thank you anyway
Food was outstanding, service began good but got slow towards the end. 2 tables away was quite a noisy group with children playing loud iPads.
Nice food but wasn't very hot
Unfortunately due do the current situation (pandemic)& the social distancing policy the restaurant was understandably quiet & that's the only reason I have given 1 star for atmosphere
Friendly and welcoming staff. Good menu choices, fresh foods with some great flavours and combinations. Nice atmosphere in elegant surroundings.
Enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings, although Restaurant was busy we were not rushed. Good choice on menu for all courses, varied. Staff attentive. Good wine list, reasonable prices. Food quality good, cost per head from £30 to £45 for 3 course meal.
We had a two course Sunday Lunch and it was lovely , the Lamb was really nice and the rice pudding was the best we had ever tasted, we will definitely be going back
Food was very nice but charging £3 or whatever for each veg dish was too much. It meant I didn't have the range of veg I would have liked. The lady who served us was excellent. Service in general was good. Location nice. I had a Sunday roast the following day in a pub in Folkestone where I had a selection of veg with the meat and the whole dish cost £15. I felt the hotel (MPW) was trying to shoot above their grade. The beef I had was nice but wasn't £25 worth. PS I eat out a lot at many different levels of restaurant including Michelin-rated so I see all prices and qualities.
Service was first class. The meal looked fabulousand tasted ok, but could have been a lot warmer. Overall I'd give a 7 out of ten. The Stilton and fruit cake for dessert was great. Good flavoursome Stilton.
Excellent service, beautiful food, very attentive
Food was exceptional. Unfortunately the service was awful. Table was never cleared of wine glasses we was not using and used dirty glasses were left for the full duration of the meal. Waiter was forgetful and unatentive, we had to ask for dessert menu twice and still it got forget. As I say I’m the food was great but the experience was completely ruined by appalling service.
Excellent food and brilliant service from the whole team
It's close to unimaginable how/why MPW has given his name to this restaurant. Two of the four steaks were cooked as asked, one was disappointing, and the fourth had to be returned as the requested 'rare' was at best 'medium'. The replacement steak took 15 minutes to arrive, at which stage the rest of the group were close to finishing their meals. The chips were unimpressive, and the description of the 'frites' option was a complete misnomer. The starters (calamari & whitebait) were soggy & tasteless, being obviously pre-packaged & frozen, and cooked in substandard oil. We were sat by the service entry, so were regularly treated to the glare of the lights from the service area & the strange sight of a wall full of food photographs whose purpose was presumably to show the service team what each dish was supposed to look like? There was also a coffee station behind one of my guest's heads, that had used coffee loudly bashed out on the counter top at regular intervals. The staff were friendly & pleasant, but the service was exceptionally slow, with the starters taking over an hour to arrive. We were given a 50% discount on the miscooked steak.
Went for Sunday roast, was 10/10 service /food excellent
Excellent food lovely restaurant. Too pricey to make it a regular place to eat but was fine for a special occasion
