Excellent
What a little gem of a place, only been open for 4 weeks when we visited so was quite quiet but it won't stay that way for long! We stayed at Canon Court ApartHotel North of the city centre as this was very convenient at only 5 mins walk away. We were meeted with a warm welcome by our excellent waiter and felt we could relax straight into the lovely contemporary but warm surroundings. We were swifly brought our drinks of choice and some home-made sour dough bread and butter whilst we waited for our orders. We shared a starter as we wanted to save ourselves for a pudding each. This was Scallops with black pudding and pea purree which was sublime. The huge scallops were perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth and the black pudding was so flavourful and had a lovely loose texture unlike the often mass produced rubbery stuff. The mains were equally good, I had herb crusted cod on top of Cullen skink. The cod was a beautifully cooked meaty piece of fish and the Cullen skink (fish soup/Stew) had such depth of flavour. My wife had a lovely succulent pan cooked corn fed chicken leg/quarter which was succulent and had crispy skin. This was served with a potatoe gratin, steamed vegetables and a lovely gravy. She said it was the best chicken she ever had! There was no drop in standard with the puddings either; my wife having a dark chocolate encased chilli chocolate mouse which a really nice bite and was lovely and rich without being heavy. I had cheese and biscuits which consisted of a cheddar style, a blue and a hard cheese all Scottish sourced and delicious. This was served with homemade oatcakes which were so much nicer than others I've had. All in all we could not fault the experience and had a truly wonderful evening. We will most definitely be back next time we manage a weekend away in Edinburgh without children!
What an amazing find. First time eating at Michael's and the meal was delicious. Great social distancing and wait staff very attentive. Will definitely be back and will introduce friends.
The restaurant appears to have been freshly decorated , plenty tables but not too closely together . Good service , calm ambience , a lovely menu & excellent value . Really , what more could you ask ? It was our first visit, after the sad closure of the Fleshmarket Close restaurant . This lives up to standard and we have already booked to return .
Excellent lunch, great food and service and cocktails for a fiver!
Not the best meal as first Monday in New Year. Had fish fried but the fish was old, from fridge, defrosted then fried. Disappointing Service good and friendly. Value for money as always. Eaten at all of Michael’s restaurants and never ever has a problem. Suspect simply no stock of fresh fish due to time of year. Going back this week give it another shot.
It was excellent and the service lovely and very helpful
Lunch menu very very limited. Soup was lovely
