Ravenwood hall is a very welcoming building which ensconces one in a warm and relaxed ambience that feels informal and puts one immediately at ease. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The service times are perfect leaving just enough time for the anticipation to peak and not enough time to wonder where it is. The Menu has staples as any menu should but it also has seasonal and local dishes which change regularly which means you will always find something that you have not tried before. Of course you can also tuck into a favourite. The food itself is really very good. They use good ingredients and cook them well. There are nice touches and elements to every dish but this is not trying to be pretentious far from it this a good sized delicious plate of food that will leave you feeling replete and very contented
We enjoy using this restaurant for Sunday lunch. As you will see from ratings most things about the restaurant are excellent. We use the restaurant for Sunday lunch a number of times during the year. However we have noticed a change recently with regard pricing. Previously the pricing was two course £20 3 courses £25. It now seems to be £25.50 regardless of the number of courses eaten. Whilst the impact of this change is slightly annoying as one of us would never have three courses when only two dine. It would be a deterrent when we are dining with a greater number. We have used the facilities for family meals where there have been a minimum of 4 people and on one occasion had 12 people where paying for a course that was not eaten would be a substantial extra cost. The new pricing strategy would certainly be a deterrent to booking a larger party.
Fantastic everything, food, staff, service, Garden Room lovely setting,
Well presented dining room with attentive staff, steak was particularly nice. Only downside, is very little choice (1 or 2 options) in way of vegetarian options for my other half.
nothing to add
On arrival at the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly member of staff. We were politely shown to our table and the whole environment had a lovely cosy feel. The table was perfectly set with shiny glasses and material napkins. The menu had good choices and the staff were quick to serve our drinks and take our orders. When our food arrived we were not disappointed ,especially the main course ,which was a very nicely executed traditional roast Sunday lunch consisting of roast beef sirloin and all the trimmings. This was delicious. The whole lunch made for a very nice family lunch.
Attended for an afternoon tea for 3 yesterday. Starting with a positive, the hotel and grounds are impressive, inside and out. Set back from the road and located up a gravel drive through wooded area. Outdoor pool for the summer, which afternoon tea customers can use, lovely landscape garden and some animals (miniature ponies, geese and a goat). Now for the negatives. I was called the day before and asked to pay up in full, reason given was that in the past people didn’t show up and food was ordered and went to waste. Thought it a bit strange not to just pay a non refundable deposit but there you are. Was told the price per head was dearer (£17 a head) as being December we were paying for a festive more elaborate tea. Having visited in september which was lovely, yesterday was a disappointment in comparison and not what I would call elaborate. Sandwiches were nice, the usual fillings except there was turkey, stuffing and cranberry and 4 x finger sandwiches per person but the cakes were disappointing and nothing special, not as nice as the ones in September. Not homemade and pastry was the ready made/cooked type that you add the filling to, hard and horrible. Coffee was weak and not hot. Had to get up to go and find someone to ask for tea and coffee top up. Staff were more attentive to trying to keep the fire alight very unsuccessfully and didn’t seem to know what to do with it and the one log on it wouldn’t stay alight, despite a good stock of logs there they were reluctant to throw more on to it for some reason! Shame as this was a Christmas treat for my mum and was a disappointment so unlikely to return again. Not good value for money.

We have been coming here for over 15 years and it is the best restaurant and hotel in the area. The food is top class and the service too. I highly reccommend the roast beef sunday lunch , one of the best we have tasted. The staff are brilliant especially the front of house. I have also attended there xmas party nights , also highly recommended and wow factor and the food served. A real gem of a place which we are lucky to have.
