4.5/10Myself and 3 family members attended today for afternoon tea. Our table was booked for 12:30pm and our food didn’t arrive until almost 40 minutes later. The sandwiches and the cakes were lovely, however the scones were all very hard and dry, with no butter to soften them and very minimal cream. The staff were miserable and we felt like we had to keep pestering them for things that should be included with the afternoon tea. We had to ask for more cream. We weren’t asked if we wanted anymore tea or coffee. We asked the waitress for a jug of water and it was if it was a hassle. There were 2 other tables filled next to ours. The one table had also complained and the manager was in attendance and the second table sent their food back. Not good service, not good value for money. Such a shame. Will likely not come here again.

9.5/10Really excellent food and good range on the menu incl. V and GF. It was busy and service was a bit pushed, but not to the detriment of a fine meal. Lovely dining room.

6/10Restaurant was very quiet with just a handful of the tables occupied when we dined. We were welcomed in a pleasant manner and shown to our table promptly. I had rang ahead as we had hit poor driving conditions on our way. We ordered beef carpaccio to share as our starter as my husband and I don’t have the appetite for 3 full courses. Unfortunately it was cut very thick for carpaccio. It was extremely ‘chewy’ and swimming in what tasted like vinaigrette as opposed to ponzu as stated on the menu. My husband’s bavette steak was perfectly cooked to medium but the fries were overcooked and looked like they were from the bottom of a cheap frozen bag. The menu mentioned truffle and parmesan but there was not even a hint of either. It wasn’t clear if this had to be requested as an extra, if so we weren’t asked. My rock bass mariniere would have been delicious if it was hot, it was at best luke warm. The best thing about the meal were the peas. I ordered a glass of wine to have with my meal but it never came. I wasn’t able to grab any of the waiting staff’s attention to chase it up. When the maitre d appeared to remove our plates and asked how the meal was, I politely pointed out the issues. He was polite and apologised but used the excuse that there was a private function and they were preparing and serving afternoon teas. He offered us a shared dessert or coffee as recompense. The coffee was nice but really?! When I went to pay, I asked for the bill as the server just requested the payment. He just turned the screen a little and I couldn’t really visualise what exactly was on the bill. As the menu did not have individual dish prices just prices for 2 or 3 courses I’m unsure what I actually paid for or if the wine that never came had been charged or indeed the concessionary coffees. I understand we attended towards the end of lunch service and despite being allegedly busy elsewhere in the hotel, I still expect a good level of service. All in all it was just somewhat disappointing. The question is would we go again? Maybe but Ludlow has many other good places to dine at so probably the answer is no.

10/10The Feathers has long been a favourite and we chose it to have a celebratory afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. It didn’t disappoint and the food, ambience and service were excellent. For those who might not know The Feathers it is one of the most historic hotels in the country and has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended and the booking procedure through The Fork was easy.

8.5/10Fortunately we had a table by the window as the room was very dark and I am visually impaired. The staff were very pleasant and helpful though I was surprised to find that when we went to the bar to pay, they had no cash float, so were unable to give me change - one way to get a tip, I suppose! The sandwich fillings were very tasty; egg, ham, salmon & cream cheese and cheese with some sort of pickle. The fruit scones were still warm and came with a very generous portion of cream. There was a selection of different jams to choose from. Tea and coffee were refilled on request. I would take Afternoon Tea here again.

9/10Pleasantly surprised to find that the lunch menu was a subset of the evening menu and not the lunch menu found on their website . Good choice of starters and mains. All the food we ordered was very well cooked and delicious. Great to have fresh veg with the meal . Service was very attentive and helpful in selecting gluten free alternatives for my wife. Could not rate the ambience very highly as there were not many tables occupied but what do you expect for a damp Tuesday lunchtime! Over all a very nice lunchtime experience in Ludlow.
