It’s not an unusual name for a pub, but it begins to seem so when you find out that the pub in question is actually nowhere near any water. However, ...

Birthday celebration with friends. Just 6 of us outside in their heated area. A top place. Highly recommend it. Wonderful food, good staff and great ambience.
Delicious food and amazing cocktails. Great atmosphere and so happy to be able to eat out again!
Really good to get out during these troubled times and the Restaurant has done all it can to help keep their guests safe. Meal was delicious too, will be back soon!
I have eaten at this restaurant a number of times in recent years, not since lockdown, and have always found the service and food excellent. I was disappointed last night that the food wasn't up to the usual standard. I know that with the restrictions in place it makes everything more difficult to offer the same atmosphere and quality.
Excellent. Food, service and surroundings. Will be back!
An oasis of culinary excellence compared to other so called gastro pubs in the district. and fairly priced. Whilst the menu is simple, the food is relatively sophisticated. We indulged in a couple of the appetisers as well as then having starter and main course...sadly leaving no room for pudding. My wife recognised that the same chef was in residence from pre lockdown., which explains the high quality of the food. The pub/restaurant has a lovely ambience, service is discretely efficient. If you have yet to visit, then just go...you will not regret it.
Excellent quality food & great service. Would highly recommend to anyone. Very friendly and helpful staff. Old style pub environment and great ambience
the restaurant was chilly due to outside door being left open. No masks worn or detail to the corona virus.!!!!!Other than one way system. Felt very vunerable. However staff helpful and food delicous.
Lovely food as usual....but, not for the first time with The Fork app, the waitress had no idea we were coming.....shambles, shoved in a side room in the dark and then largely ignored...40 mins after mains finished I left to get someone to bring the bill....not good enough tbh
Excellent as always
Great seasonal food - superb. Service excellent - I mucked up the booking numbers, and it was no problem. Made to feel very welcome!
So the Sunday lunch was some of the best food we’ve had in a long while. We go out to eat A LOT. And it’s been a long while since I’ve been so impressed with a roast dinner. I was a bit disappointed to find that the scotch egg was no longer on the menu even if it was still on their website, but it was replaced by a sausage roll which as sausage rolls go it was very tasty. I had the scallops which were I would say a bit mediocre I would of like the Parma ham that can with it to have been grilled rather as it came as with the pea consume it got a quite slimy. Roast beef was fabulous, perfectly cooked and roast potatoes were cooked to perfection which is were a lots of pubs fail. Good ample amount of gravy and lovely crunchy veg. Desserts were the piece de resistance though, children’s Etonian mess, bake well tart and the chocolate parfait were beautiful 10/10 we also had proper espresso not the rubbish that comes from a button machine. To accompany the coffee they gave you bitesized chocolate brownies which were AMAZING. Soft gooey and lovely. Looking forward to going to try their al a carte menu. I can’t give it 10/10 complete rating as we felt like the service was a bit off, our waitress was lovely but the gentleman who showed us in when we arrived looked at us like we’d come from another planet and we were an inconvenience. So we felt a bit uncomfortable when when we walked in, a friendlier welcome would of been nice especially in these uncertain times. But we’re looking forward to going to inconvenience him again soon
Friendly and efficient service. The food was delicious as always. The venison carpaccio didn’t disappoint. The hash browns with parsley mayo were delicious too
Pleasure to eat out again post lockdown. Excellent food, especially the starters. Atmosphere was quiet as not full. The bill was confusing as service was added to price of dishes and then appeared as a subtotal too.
Lunch for 4 people mid-week at The Anchor was a very pleasant experience. This pub is in the Michelin Guide and we had high expectations. The staff were very friendly and helped to make sure that we secured a table (booked in advance) with umbrella in the lovely back courtyard. The menu was very good with enough choice to cater for most tastes. I had seared scallops with King Peter ham in a pea veloute. The two scallops were nicely cooked and juicy, the ham (prosciutto) full of flavour, and the generous pea veloute made for a very palatable starter. My partner had the tuna gazpacho, so raw tuna with tomatoes and a smooth gazpacho soup poured over the tuna as the dish was served at the table. It was delicious. One of our party had the hummus and flat bread to start. Main courses: two of us had the guinea fowl with corn and mushrooms which was very good. The other two had perfectly cooked hake, on sliced courgette with flavourful girolle mushrooms. We ordered a side of green beans with spring onion and chilli, perfectly cooked. Desert was an sophisticated take on Jaffa cake with ice cream (a mini orange and chocolate log with ice cream on the side). There was also a version of Eton mess, plus a good cheese board. Complimentary bite-size freshly cooked donuts were offered with the fresh mint tea. The wine list was good, the Pinot Noir was excellent, as was the Scicilian white. The chef can adapt dishes to cater for food allergy requirements. The whole place is very obliging. Staff are well-trained and knowledgeable, and attentive. The menu is priced reasonably for the standard of the food. Social distancing was in place and it felt comfortable being there. For a Wednesday lunchtime it was reasonably busy. There is a car park behind The Anchor, a decent size, which is helpful, with some parking out front also. Definitely worth a try.
The service was much slower than usual There seemed to be a staff shortage.
The Anchor is a local gem, the staff are lovely and the food is exceptional, with great wine choices, we love going there.
Lovely food and ambiance
Lovely little restaurant. Well staffed. Good food. Wine list a little limited with no French wine by the glass.
This is an excellent pub/restaurant. The food is always spot on, importantly the service is always very professional too.
