8/10Nice ambience, and good pub style food once it does arrive - service was on the slow side. Chef apparently forgot an element in one of our desserts, we had to ask them to check against the menu, and no apology.

9.5/10I have lived in Sheffield and now Derbyshire for 30 years and had not been to the Chequers for some time. I was impressed with the food enough to write this review as it was excellent. And I eat out while travelling for work about 10 weeks a year.

10/10This has all the appearance of a traditional country pub. However, the food, as well as the service, takes dining to another level altogeher. The insides are clean and well looked after. The tables are shiny and polished and are not sticky with overwaxinglike some pubs. The service is really friendly, welcoming and down to earth. And the beer is good. However, it's the food that raises the bar (pardon the pun). The flavours of the food are well matched and exceptional. It may sound expensive but there is a reason and it is an excellent reason; the food is absolutely exquisite. Is there anything to recommend? It's all good.No, Really, it is!

10/10A lovely country pub, warm & welcoming with an open fire. The staff were polite & friendly & provided excellent service. Great choice of menu with classics & something a bit different. Prices were reasonable too. A great experience.

10/10We just had New years Day meal with our best friends and family and had a wonderful experience, lovely friendly welcoming people, fantastic food and service. Absolutely 5 stars from us all and can’t wait to go back again and get some fabulous fudge too!!

10/10Lovely old pub with gorgeous welcoming fire and cosy bar and restaurant. The food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly. Great for a cosy winter fireside lunch or dinner.

10/10This is a restaurant I have returned to on and off for 25 years. Today was impressive, with a great atmosphere, food, and service. The Chequers has a classy but still hearty menu showcasing locally sourced meats, seasonable vegetables, etc.. It isn't the cheapest, but if you are into very good food after a walk on froggatt Edge, this is your place. Yummy 10/10

9/10Fabulous location & delightful friendly staff. Food was good although the duck I had was not ‘melt in the mouth’ tender but still enjoyable. Can recommend the steak & ale pie my husband has, filled with meat & delicious. Will definitely return, thanks!!

10/10An interesting menu (dishes like Guinea fowl) excellent food, friendly service, good choice of local beers and decent wines by the glass. With the fire in the grate and a prettily lit tree in a typical Derbyshire building the ambience is first rate too

9.5/10We were really pleased we took the trouble to drive 30 minutes from Castleton to this lovely pub. The food is of a really high quality with an interesting and tasty 'special'. It's obvious there's a lot of care and attention going into the food from the kitchen. Serving staff helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Easy parking just across the road. Don't be put off by the 'Road Closed' signs (December 2022) - the pub is still open and accessible Highly recommended..

10/10The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly too. We ordered a drink when we arrived and then later when we ordered another, they remembered our preferences making it feel like the staff really listened and cared about their customers. The atmosphere was really nice too. The staff were knowledgeable about the food and drink and could not do enough for you. This was our second time here and we will definitely be returning. Thank you!

6/10Service pretty poor. We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive so with the time waiting to place our order we sat for an hour without food. My wife’s dish was good but mine was pretty poor. Meant to be chicken supreme but it was a chicken leg with just a smear of sauce around the plate so very tasteless and didn’t even look good.

8.5/10This was our second time here and the service was excellent. The food was very good, but not quite as good as the superb Sunday lunch we had previously. I found the wood pigeon starter to be a little over done, and the cod tandoori was fairly bland. However, we enjoyed the experiece overall and will go again.

8/10Always a lovely Sunday dinner, however the vegetables are getting more and more minimal, very miserable girl serving, like she really didn’t want to be there however other two ladies really nice
