7.5/10As always the food is lovely. However the tables are quite small for 4 people in the bar area so a bit cramped Long delays at the bar waiting to order food - as they fulfil drink orders at the same time.

7/10Definitely a lack of attention to customer service. At no point did anyone ask if everything was alright. Forgot to bring a second drink and we had to ask for desserts.

7.5/10The food is excellent. Not enough staff on a Sunday evening, they struggled with getting the orders in and delivering the food. Not their fault they tried very hard to help every customer.

10/10Great food good service and lovely atmosphere. Parking can be a bit of a problem as popular with students and dog walkers. Best to book especially in good weather due to its proximity to the common.

10/10There was a bit of a wait for our table and a slow queue at the bar. However the staff were helpful and friendly. I am a coeliac and they were well informed about their food and gluten. The food was good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed our lunch and would go back again.

10/10We were a table of 8 on our Work's Xmas 'do'.and had pre-booked. We were seated on a lovely big table by the window and our waitress checked our food orders with us and advised it would be a 20 minute wait, which was fine. The food was delicious, plentiful and piping hot. Very good value and the waitress was lovely. We paid one lump sum in cash and the transaction very easy and stress free. Would definitely recommend 👌

4.5/10A lot of oil on the plates from either the roast potatoes, or roast vegetables. Parsnips hard and other veg not soft. Very disappointing! (Had to take serviette to soak up the oil)

4.5/10Polite and welcoming staff. Four people at the table for 12 noon lunch. Two choices were immediately unavailable - fish and chips and lasagne. Or birthday girl had been looking forward to her fish and chips treat. No obvious gluten free options for one of our table. Helpful waiting staff helped with this. Creamy seafood linguini lacked creamy texture. Mentioned to staff. Little or no meringue in the mini Eaton mess. Other mini pudds were excellent, though were served after coffee had long been drunk. Service was exceptionally slow and was clearly not the fault of the waitress who was helpful throughout, though she appeared embarrassed at everyone’s long wait around our area of the restaurant. A busy pub but by no means full. I hope that my comments are useful to aid your staff training. The Cowherds setting was a very pleasant way to catch up with friends and mark a significant birthday. 9.5/10The food was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. The staff was very welcoming. They even allowed us to improvise a small birthday party. Very cosy atmosphere. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I would go there again.

8/10Staff were very friendly and service was good. Food was good but mash a bit hard round some edges. Food only Luke warm and did not spot any pancetta in my “chicken and pancetta pie”. We were all pleased with our desserts. Several tables full when we arrived but by 9pm we were the only ones in the pub! So not much atmosphere.

7.5/10I booked a dog friendly table for a party of 3 in advance. Then I called to let them know we would be 30 minutes late due to traffic and was told that this was ok. When we arrived there was no dog friendly table available. Luckily we had decided not to bring the dogs at the last minute but it could have been at total wipe out. Our waiter was polite and helpful. He did make a mistake with our order. One of our meals came out of the kitchen cold. The cold part was replaced. The meal was over £60. The whole experience should have been perfect but it most certainly was not.

10/10Warm friendly atmosphere staff was very professional and spot on. Meal was superb l strongly recommend going for lunch or evening meal. Lots of choice on the menu too Thank you will definitely be booking again soon

7/10Very crowded and staff very busy covering all tables. Chicken and sea bass meals were good, the lamb dish a little less so. Apple pie was well received, but apple and blackberry crumbles had been left too long in the microwave and my spoonful of crumble was more like a sprinkling. We did not consider it good value for the bill of £138.

8.5/10We come here once a month for Sunday lunch with our Son when we visit him a Southampton Uni and we are so glad we found it. Lovely place with fabulous staff. Our waitress was Claire again today and she is friendly, helpful and fun. See you next month :)

9/10Very good food. I had steak and chips and then the brownie. My friend had fish and chips and the Black Forest chocolate pot. The service was a little slow last night but the food so good it made up for it. The atmosphere was good. I do struggle with chairs that are not very comfy but other than that it was a lovely evening out.

5/10The place was pretty quiet and the staff were pleasant however the plant based burger was awful. The rose wine was far too expensive and even the cuppachino was standard. I’ve had far better of all three at other places. It’s a shame as it used to be good

4.5/10Fish was really wet did not seem fresh and the chicken was bread crumbed not as normal natural breast of chicken chips were certainly triple fried hard like old chip

6/10Very average. There is nothing wrong with the Cowherds. It’s clean, comfortable with very pleasant staff, but it’s quite dull with an uninspiring menu. I have been a few times but only because it’s convenient. It would never be a destination pub.

9.3/10Sown to a very nice table,drinks offered and menus given, menu had lovely choices so difficult to choose, prawn and lobster cocktail delicious and such nice bread. service was good, Everyone enjoyed their meals . Crème Brule was scrumptious and delicious biscuits. Steaks cooked as we asked and peppercorn sauce very nice
