10/10A good restaurant with attentive well trained staff. Let down by the bookings system, which sends you lots of reminders but makes it impossible to book, re-book, or cancel, un less you have wifi access. The telephone is ignored. We would return because the food is decent and plentiful, with a wide range of choices.

5/10Gorgeous pub but service wise we waited an hour and 20 mins for our main courses! And then the food was mediocre for the price! Such a shame as lovely place! Wouldn’t go back

8/10got to the fox and roman i spent 150 pounds but there was no starters left at 7.30 apart from tomato soup/ the waiter was great and apologised/ this let the 4 of us down/ not impressed at this visit john

7/10We had 5 consecutive bookings . 4 were good but 1 , beef & Kidney pie was very disappointing. The meat was extremely tough !

7.5/10The Fox is decent pub grub with a good varied menu. It’s dog friendly but also has a nice restaurant area too. We often pop in when I want a night off cooking and we know it will be an enjoyable meal

9.5/10Excellent pub, obviously loved by the locals who booked it out - so make sure you have a reservation. 6.30 seems to be when they all flock in. Our table was for 7pm so we ended up having a bit of a wait and to make an alternative choice for mains as ours was sold out. Well kept cellar - excellent beers and plenty of cocktails available. Will return when next in York

5/10Very slow service, waited over 40 minutes for our food order to be taken. 1 member of the party couldn't make it and we told a member of staff who never communicated this with the waitress who took our order

5/10The new bar man was very helpful he had only been there a few weeks, that was the good thing! The sandwiches took 40 minutes to arrive you had to blink to see the chicken, cheese and avocado in there! They were small too, They were not acceptable

7.5/10Meal was lovely even though it took a while for it to be served. A mix up with the bills as I explained twice that we wanted one bill per per table as I had a number of tables booked but still they came multiple table bill on one receipt ?

10/10The service was exemplary. Waitress was very informative about the menu and very helpful and welcoming. The added bonus was that as we attended on a Sunday we had the best Sunday lunch we have had for a long time.

6/10The staff were very pleasant and made us feel very welcome! Three of us just wanted a like snack so ordered a cheese toastie. Sadly there was hardly any cheese in them at all. Our fourth companion had fish and loved it. The staff were very good when we expressed our disappointment and they gave us a dessert in lieu which was very kind.

9/10Excellent service from the staff especially Maria. Nothing was too much trouble and they all treated us as individuals and not just any customer. Covid was followed but was not ' in your face' . Staff working hard during a very busy period. No delays in table service. Excellent well done everyone.

9/10This was our first visit to the pub which we booked to coincide with an art event in Dringhouses. I had to put our booking back by half an hour but everyone was cool about that. The pub oozed contemporary charm, the service was flawless and the food was above average for a pub. Loved it!

10/10We were doing the Bookfair in York And staying in the Holiday Inn and we Always come to the Fox and Roman For our meals and drinks, we came 3 days running, and we have been coming for 16 years. Best wishes cliff

4/10Was very disappointed with the service after been seated at our table no one asked if we would like a drink. Waited 15 minutes then went to the bar myself. Waited another 10 minutes had to ask for someone to take our order. The food itself was really good. They really need to sort the service out the pub wasn’t even that busy

10/10Quiet lunchtime visit with a friend. Very efficient staff and prompt service. Homemade pizza was really lovely as was the halloumi salad. Couldn’t be faulted at all.

9.8/10We had our Christmas lunch here. The atmosphere is great and the staff fabulous. I am not a great fan of turkey but make an exception at Christmas. The turkey at the Fox and Roman was the best I have ever had. The whole meal was brilliant. I would highly recommend this gastro pub.

9.8/10We like this place, it's outside of York centre, but it's handy for the Hotel we stay at, always book, as when we go on a Friday evening and on a Saturday evening it's always full...... for good reason...
