6/10The food was very average and portions of the same thing were different sizes. For my chicken kebab starter no satay sauce was brought out. I didn’t realise until someone else on our table ordered the same thing later on. Their salad portion was much smaller than mine so some quality control needed. The manageress did increase the portion size once alerted. The food was lukewarm, not hot. One of us had a goats cheese starter. It was not well presented and looked as if it had been flattened onto the plate. The same salad was served as with the rest of the food but again no salad dressing. My lemon tart was smothered in a type of red fruit jam & meringue. Far too sweet & completely unnecessary. Just a small amount of cream was all that was needed. The fruit crumble was nice. We were so underwhelmed by the food that unfortunately we probably won’t be back.

5/10Sunday afternoon is not a good time to visit. They had run out of roast veg option and my second choice, there were still loud children at 7pm and the staff were tired.

8.5/10The Gate is a little expensive for what it is, but they do some nice vouchers deals which make it excellent value. The service was excellent and the food was very good.

4.5/10I booked the Gate as a Birthday present for my friend, I am currently unemployed so it was a big deal. The waiter and the slim waitress could not have been more helpful or attentive (9/11/24 6pm) - I think they were brilliant. What was not brilliant was that my overpriced scallop starter was luke warm at best and there were only two, on a bed of easentially sugar syrup. Vile. And I adore scallops. I ordered the vegan burger for my main and honestly the pile of salad that came with it was bigger than the burger when I tipped it out. There was also no mention of needing to order chips as a side - I have never experienced this, so that was rubbish. Overall the experience, bar the waiting staff was appalling and I won't be going back and I will certainly be telling friends to steer clear. I never write reviews but this had to be said.

8.5/10We spent a very pleasant evening at The Gate, sitting in the garden for a pre-dinner drink before moving inside to eat. Food was good, if not outstanding. But service from the young staff was excellent - efficient and unfailingly cheerful.

10/10My first visit to The Gate, Chorleywood. We were offered drinks immediately after being seated and these arrived quickly. Plenty of staff who were very attentive, despite all tables being taken. Good choices on the fixed price lunch menu and food was delicious. Very good value for money. Won't hesitate to recommend or revisit this restaurant.

7.5/10Good staff, prompt service and acceptable fare. No serious quibbles other than 1) at first we were located next to the ladies' toilets and asked to be moved 2) the Sunday or weekend time accoustics in the dining area, where we were re-seated, made serious conversation increasingly hard to follow. We will be back but during the working week when demand is likely to be less onerous on all.

7.5/10Staff were very attentive and polite. I had booked a table by the window - which we did not have. Our salads were good. My reason for the lower score for ambiance was we had an extremely noisy table right next to us.

8/10As we opted to eat outside we had to place our order for food and drinks at the bar. This was OK but when it came to paying, each separately, there was some confusion at the till. However, this was rectified quite quickly. It would have been nice if our orders could have been taken at the table.

9.5/10We were greeted well and promptly seated at our requested table. Menus were circulated and there was no problems ordering and pay at the bar. Background music could have been at a lower volume to facilitate conversation.

7/10Having been shown to our table and ordered drinks, we then had to ask for our food order to be taken as no one came. Salmon was delicious but came with only small portion of veg. A couple of new potatoes would have been nice. Also lack of ventilation was concerning as it was a nice day and open windows would have been welcome. Staff were friendly tho.

8.5/10It's a nice place to go, the food is good but not superb, that's to be expected, it's really only pub grub.! Service is good and it's a nice place to meet friends.The prices are a little on the high side...but OK.

10/10We were greeted with by an awesome man and had an amazing waitress, attentive with great personality so very helpful. The food served hot snd plenty of it Thank you see you again soon
