We went on a Fri evening. The food was very nice - for mains I had the burger and my partner the fishcake. The live music was nice and not too loud. The only issue was that the food took very long to arrive - the starters took 30mins and the mains took an hour after we finished our starters. The waiters were very attentive and checked on us regularly. Overall, I would still recommend this place.

I would recomment this place even to my enemy; the manager is just hostile, I booked a table with my points and he treated me very bad, he screamed at me, when I booked the place and is his job to know who is coming and what apps the restaurant is on. I totally not recommend, a place to avoid!!!

They don’t have a clue about reservations made through here or the discounts offered, very unprofessional.

The afternoon tea was fabulous. The finger sandwiches were made with different flavour breads which complemented the fillings. The scones were lovely and warm. It was nice that we had our own selection of desserts as opposed to having to share. The service was first rate. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive.

Lovely afternoon tea. We got the free flowing champagne option, which was good value. Cakes and sandwiches were delicious. Service was excellent.

The location is incredible and the service was really nice. We had a lovely time. Only side note is that we would have preferred more savery dishes (or maybe option to refill)

Great afternoon tea, lots of tasty treats. Warm scones delicious. For me a couple more sandwiches and less sweet treats would have been better. Not keen on the take on Victoria sponge.

Nice tea but disappointed by the service. Had to ask for scones and Jam and more tea which was forgotten and so had to remind them

The restaurant itself was beautiful and the waitress was very polite. However, service was extremely slow. We waited a considerable amount of time for drinks. We booked the unlimited fizzy wine option and our glasses were left empty most of the time. Sandwiches were chosen for you rather than placed on a layered tray to choose from and they were not tasty. They were dry, small and rather disappointing. Our tea pots were filled once and never asked if we wanted more. The cakes were all pretty similar - nothing amazing there! Scones were the best part but these came right at the end. Service charge was added £22.50 to the bill which was quite ironic as service was so slow and poor.

Very nice tea but the sandwiches were a little underwhelming in their variety and there weren’t very many of them... The sparking wine was nice and free flowing as promised

Setting is great and general service is good. the cakes were divine, the only drawbacks here is that the tea gets cold so quickly so they don't actually put boiling water. Also each time the waitress came over with a new pot she would serve straight away rather than letting the teabag to brew., she did this without asking whether we wanted our cups filled. Also sandwiches weren't freshly made at the time, its almost like they make them in bulk and leave them aside as and when they need to serve them. We didn't get served the sandwiches until 15 mins after we were seated so surely they can make them fresh. If you are vegetarian or don't eat beef make note of this at the booking so they are made aware as they don't make these changes once you are there.

About the restaurant

A traditional past-time in King's Cross most inspiring venue. Savour our afternoon tea while learning about the stories of how our area has transformed into the vibrant destination that is today.

The coming of railways into the area in the past made King's Cross the hub for anything and everything - potatoes, furniture, tobacco and timber, most vital of these goods was coal. Victorian London was a city powered by coal, and Coal Drops Yard, the new shopping district in King's Cross was its coal store.

In 1874 the first Pullman train in to the UK operated on the Midland Railway where groups of wealthy travellers embark on mystery tours, these train lines were crucial in transporting not only people but food and other materials. Many discoveries were found when excavating the goods yard near St. Pancras station back in 2011, including evidence of a large potato market and even a banana stall, which was found on old maps used for ripening and selling bananas.

The light blue ironwork found in St. Pancras station was manufactured by the Butterley Iron Company, which was formed in 1790 as Benjamin Outram & Co to exploit the mineral resources of the Erewash Valley particularly the Butterley tunnel in Derbyshire.

Housed in an iconic building, The Hansom in London sits next to Kings Cross and St Pancras Rail Stations. Valet parking is available on site.
