6/10Had to wait ages to get drinks and even longer to get the food. One of the starters was only luke warm but the other one had just been cooked. The triple fried chips were not crispy. Unfortunately, the service and quality of the food has dropped since I last came.

7.5/103 of us had the prawn linguine and it really wasn’t the best. Not that it was “disgusting” as such. Just no flavour at all. I have tasted better ready meals. The prawns where clearly made separate because they held a lot of flavour themselves.

7/10It was quite time and it was good, although the staff wanted to seat us literally next to someone else. Apart from he dropped the drinks that half got into all my friend clothes he was very apologetic. The food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. It will make me return

7.5/10We go to The Malt Shovel on a regular basis during weekdays. Thought we'd try a roast so booked for a Sunday early when it would be less busy. The roasted meats and yorkshire puds were fine, however the accompanying vedgetables let the meal down. The carrots were very undercooked and the roast potatoes seemed as if they had been reheated and not very 'fluffy'. Service was excellent as usual. This could just be a one off as normally the food quality is very good. The venue got very busy. Will continue to eat at this venue.

8.5/10Service is excellent. However the menu hasn't altered in weeks which after a while means lack of something different to try.

7/10Friendly staff & atmosphere. Food was very good, just disappointing my first two choices were not available, nor my choice of dessert. But what I did have was tasty.

8.5/10Service and food to an excellent standard. Only issue was limited and dated menu which use to change every few weeks.

4/10Bar and restaurant smelt of men's toilets....which were not flushing and not attended in a 3 hour visit ladies had no soap or toilet rolls...manager was unaware of state of toilets. Staff more interested in talking to friends and on phones than serving or clearing up, depressing sitting looking at dirty tables and bar area with cloths thrown on top of glasses....the restaurant was not busy at this time. Staff arguing and snapping at each other and whilst some were courteous and friendly others struggled to do more than dump things on thd table. A general feeling that regulars are welcome but drop ins are not so much. Food was okay not that warm.

9.5/10We had a really good meal with excellent and friendly service from all waiting staff. It was my son's birthday and he was made to feel very special.

8/10We enjoyed our visit. It seemed that the Malt Shovel not to be overambitious and to to do well what it aims to do. Staff were pleasant. The only problem was the breakdown of the card reader but this can happen to any establishment. Just as well I had enough cash on me!

4/10We love the Malt Shovel. We've been many times. Staff were friendly and efficient and our waitress was absolutely brilliant with our kids. The children's sausages were good, the kids burger was dull. It could have done with some cheese and salad. Two adults stayed until later. We tried to order food around 21:30 but the kitchen was closed. Given that we had been having drinks for several hours, we would have expected a quick warning if the kitchen was too close early. The pub did not even have any crisps or snacks either. So although although we enjoyed our day out, and we appreciated that a waitress offer to serve us a dessert, 2 of us left very hungry and disappointed. Dear Malt Shovel, please bring snacks back and please warn your customers about the earlier kitchen closure times to avoid disappointment.
