10/10We had a lovely experience at The Malt Shovel, staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. The pub itself felt very festive and cozy, perfect for the Winter ahead and a very inviting bar and selection. The food we ordered was delicious, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the pie of the day which was delicious along with accompaniments and a very good portion. We will definitely be back, and we very much enjoyed the pub quiz. On the pricier side but we had an offer through the APP so that helped.

3/10Service was awful took 30 minutes for our first drink 50 minutes for starter and the main course was Luke warm no cutlery asked for it waiter went over to another customer I got up myself and got it

9/10The food is good - well presented and tasty. I like the friendly ambience of this restaurant with very friendly staff. The one thing letting it down is the parlous state of the ladies lavatories. Only one cubicle in working order. They are renovating in June but still need to make good before then.

3.5/10Being in hospitality for over 30 years, I appreciate that the staff might be over it come Sunday afternoon, but the language coming from the kitchen and the lack of care with the food, was just unacceptable I’m afraid, at anytime. Unprofessional and not worth the money. The sirloin was only available as it comes, which turns out was cremated and the crumble, well, not sure it should be called that and was less than a 1 cm deep in total. Definitely won’t be returning.

8.5/10The calamari looked like popcorn and quite a small portion and the spicy chicken was tasty but small quantity. The Camembert was, however, tasty. In the end we had to leave before our desserts came as waiting over half an hour for 2 desserts is not reasonable or good customer service.

6/10Had to wait ages to get drinks and even longer to get the food. One of the starters was only luke warm but the other one had just been cooked. The triple fried chips were not crispy. Unfortunately, the service and quality of the food has dropped since I last came.

7.5/103 of us had the prawn linguine and it really wasn’t the best. Not that it was “disgusting” as such. Just no flavour at all. I have tasted better ready meals. The prawns where clearly made separate because they held a lot of flavour themselves.

7/10It was quite time and it was good, although the staff wanted to seat us literally next to someone else. Apart from he dropped the drinks that half got into all my friend clothes he was very apologetic. The food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. It will make me return

7.5/10We go to The Malt Shovel on a regular basis during weekdays. Thought we'd try a roast so booked for a Sunday early when it would be less busy. The roasted meats and yorkshire puds were fine, however the accompanying vedgetables let the meal down. The carrots were very undercooked and the roast potatoes seemed as if they had been reheated and not very 'fluffy'. Service was excellent as usual. This could just be a one off as normally the food quality is very good. The venue got very busy. Will continue to eat at this venue.

4/10Bar and restaurant smelt of men's toilets....which were not flushing and not attended in a 3 hour visit ladies had no soap or toilet rolls...manager was unaware of state of toilets. Staff more interested in talking to friends and on phones than serving or clearing up, depressing sitting looking at dirty tables and bar area with cloths thrown on top of glasses....the restaurant was not busy at this time. Staff arguing and snapping at each other and whilst some were courteous and friendly others struggled to do more than dump things on thd table. A general feeling that regulars are welcome but drop ins are not so much. Food was okay not that warm.

9.5/10Phoned for a table last minute , & they squeezed us in , service was excellent as usual , (never had bad service ) food was lovely , tasty plentiful well presented and piping hot , and the log burning fire just finished the evening off x
