7/10Delightful service, excellent wine, food mixed. Good fish, good courgette fritters, good cheese board. Ratatouille hopeless, miserable watery veg stew. Terribly noisy place not suitable for the old and deaf.

5.5/10The restaurant was fine. The wine choice excellent albeit pricey. It was a Wednesday night and for a restaurant whose menu changes daily to run out of two items chicken and monkfish was inexcusable for a 7.30 booking. The food was good and service excellent just lack of choice disappointed. Keep the same menu for at least a couple of days and hold enough stock to serve everyone.

8/10Gastropub with high praises and rewards, so expectations were high. It is very popular and was very busy on a Saturday night, which made for a somewhat slower service than would have been desirable. I am Italian so used to enjoy my time at a restaurant table, but over three hours from arrival (early) to leaving is a bit much for a three course meal. That said, the food was good and the atmosphere fine. Prices are a bit high for the quality of the experience.

8.5/10We both had the steak frites. Rather than ask how we’d like it we were just told it came medium rare. Ok, but it was definitely blue/rare. Otherwise all very good.

4.5/10Was not impressed on any level. From the bread which was like a rock, to the potatoes that tasted of old oil to waiting almost an hour for our mains….. and 12 1/2 percent included in the bill. Won’t be back

9.5/10The Oarsman has a really nice relaxed feel to it, with excellent food and attention to detail from a food and service perspective. Lovely lunch and the pre-booked champagne was ready once we sat down. Service was very attentive but not over the top, just right. Would recommend it.

9.5/10Very good food (especially the absolutely delicious fish soup), beautifully presented. The service was excellent. And I got a candle on my dessert since we were celebrating my birthday!

4.5/10Warm welcome, nice bar and then booth seating area (much nicer than main restaurant area). Starters lovely, mains okay, but cheese board completely overpriced and very bland/ disappointing selection. Then the bill shock. Wow! Unfortunately the experience doesn't meet the expectation. Or the very high prices!

4.5/10We booked 6 weeks ahead for Easter Saturday lunch and were given a table whereby half the party were looking at the kitchen door and cash register and others were by the stairs and cupboard. The restaurant was 2/3 empty so no reason for this, nor, when I rang the day before having got numbers wrong, to be told rather charmlessly that the extra person would be okay but we would be very cramped (I assumed they wanted me to cancel). However soulless the table, we were not short of space. The room at the back is airy but the acoustics would be challenging were it full. The food did not measure up to the price. The baguette steak and chips were unremarkable but my and my nephews stone bass was very, very salty. The crispy potatoes work out at about £1 a chip. The desserts were poor. The tiramisu was a dryish coffee cake present in a conical glass and the white chocolate mousse was odd tasting slush. When they are all preprepared, it is difficult to understand why one does not get a decent recipe and get this course right. The wine again was very over priced with very standard wines starting at £50; we had a cheaper white Côte de Rhone and it was uncharacteristic, being thin and quite sharp and unlike any I have had previously. The service was fine if patronising. At over £400 we felt it was money ill spent.
