Very nice pub/restaurant and pleasant staff. We chose the set price 2 course menu, the Mackerel starter was delicious and we had the sharing Chateau Briande with fries for main course which has a £16 surcharge. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and tender. Portion sizes are small and we could have done with ordering some extra vegetables to fill the plate! Make sure you read and understand the menu before you order as it is a little confusing and you may get charged for things you thought were included.

Sunday lunch not a patch on evening dinner in previous week. I suspect that chefs are bored with cooking 'meat and two veg', and so serve up a boring meal for Sunday lunchers.

Booked late afternoon we managed to get a 7:45 table for 4. We were at a nearby hotel 2 miles away and took a taxi to the restaurant, not an easy task as almost all the cabs we tried were fully booked. However, Uber to the rescue and we were there with time to have a drink in a local hostelry. However, the Old Stocks is much more than a restaurant; there’s a bar and a cocktail lounge too as well as a reception lounge with comfortable seating so we should have gone straight there. Anyway, to the restaurant and a cocktail to start whilst perusing the menu. Our host, Richard, the manager, is a very pleasant chap with an easy, jovial way about him. Our meal was amazing; we opted for the three course version. The wine wasn’t expensive and a drink chosen by dice roll, was an interesting touch. When it was time for us to go, we struggled to get a taxi. Jokingly, we said to Richard, we’d have to stay the night unless he stepped in, which he did, personally driving us to our hotel, Top Man!

There was a serious misunderstanding on the delivery of vegetables. My wife made it clear she did not eat cabbage or kale only to find for the main course the promised broccoli was replaced by kale. The only alternative green vegetable was asparagus which was ultimately offered by the house manager after the plate had been returned with merely the kale removed. Shame because the standard of cooking was high. Portions on the small side. Roumanian pinot noir good value.

The food was cooked and presented beautifully - the quality of ingredients was exceptional. The homemade bread was a particularly nice touch. The ambience was very good and the staff very attentive and the whole place had a nice relaxed atmosphere. My only concern was that I was exceptionally hungry and would have liked larger portions.

Lovely place. Exceeded our expectations. Food was delicious. We had a three course menu with roasts as the main course. Every single meal/dish was lovely and the kids loved the meals off the kids menu too. Definitely go again.

Went for Sunday lunch and both of us had the roast beef with a shared side of cauliflower cheese. It is without doubt the best Sunday beef we’ve had in a restaurant, it was like cutting through soft butter, and was a good portion size unlike so many other places we’ve been to. Everything else about the roast was very good, my only criticism would be the roast potatoes had a texture which made me feel they’d been reheated and not served straight from a sizzling pan. That having been said the rest of meal made up for it and we will return.

We visited on route to picking our son up, We were greeted and seated straight away in a lovely dining area. Only a set menu and different and more expensive than advertised on Tripadvisor but still plenty of choice. Food presentation and taste was excellent, only small problem was my main meal was Luke warm, but this was rectified by giving me a free desert which was delicious. Also had a little free treat as it was our anniversary.

The food was absolutely amazing, perfect timings between courses, the restaurant was fully booked on a Sunday evening and they were serving from their a la carte menu. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

This is a brilliant restaurant on all fronts. Staff - wonderful. Bogdan the restaurant manager is welcoming, charming and very knowledgeable. Sofia and Katie provide expert and attentive table assistance. The three of them make a formidably wonderful team. Drinks - great pint of Helles lager and a refreshing cranberry juice at the bar. Refilled water bottle (Brita no less) at the table. Delicious white Rioja at a great price. Note - all of the wines on a very reasonable list are sensibly priced. How many other establishments could learn from the Old Stocks’ pricing practice? Food - where to start? Great menu - not too long, not too short, something for everyone’s palate. The crab salad on a bed of tomatoes was delicately flavoured and brilliantly balanced. Careful and sensitive handling of just a few ingredients. Lamb - beautifully cooked pieces of lamb rump, delightful slow cooked belly scrumpet. All the accoutrements balanced the dish very well. Turbot - delicious Cornish crab butter sauce with samphire, cucumber and new potatoes. White chocolate and pistachio mousse with cherry, etc - amazing. The “smores” with ceramic and Dulce de leche and peanuts, etc were also top drawer. Overall - outstanding meal served by outstanding people. We’ll be back.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The service was friendly, the ambience was cozy and the dinner was amazing! We started with drinks made with their housemade botanical gin. The Ceasar salad w anchovies was crispy and fresh and the bread and butter, super fluffy! I loved my stonebass with truffle potatoes and sauerkraut and my husband raved about his venison w potatoes. Great selection of wines by the glass. There was plenty of free parking at dinner time and the menu has something for everyone. Highly recommend!

Everything was great. The service was very professional and efficient. The food was all excellent, really great flavours and attention to detail. 2 vegetarian options on starters and mains with vegan modifications possible. Both were really lovely. Small complaint that one was risotto which is the staple of vegetation options in restaurants that aren't that interested in serving non meat eaters. As a veggie I'd rather something more interesting in an upscale place. This is nit picking though. Nothing to complain about! Ambiance was really nice, decor fresh and calm and stylish. It was a bit noisy when full which I'm mindful of with elderly relatives. No issue for us but just thought I'd mention it in case it's useful for anyone hard of hearing. Bar man was great, lots of interesting cocktails and a good bar. It wasn't cheap - £100 for two courses for two with 2 single alcoholic drinks - but certainly worth it for a lovely night out. Highly recommend

Charming, classic, delicious, first rate! Came here as a single and was treated incredibly well by all the weight stuff. The food was absolutely excellent especially the Porchetta and the risotto. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fine food and excellent cocktails
