8/10It was the first time we tried the new spring menu. There were some nice options and I tried the asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise. The asparagus was lovely and the egg suitable oozy however the hollandaise was not hot which slightly detracted from the dish. Braised lamb Henry was my next choice. The meat was falling apart and tasty with just a few fatty and gristly bits but not many. The potato was fine but the poor quality of the peas let down the leek and pea fricassee. I did get a little jug of gravy/jus but it did not taste of mint. To finish I tried the baked chocolate cheesecake which was excellent. It was very chocolaty and the cherries were superb.

8/10I dined with friends and we chose mains from the specials menu. I had a soup to start, carrot and ginger which was very nicely spiced. We were impressed with the range of specials available and all had an enjoyable meal. I had the turkey and leek pie with fries and mushy peas which was very good. My friends chose the beef and mash dish with broccoli which looked excellent. Two of us had ice cream and the third went for the brandy and marmalade bread and butter pudding with custard. She pronounced it very enjoyable.

6.5/10There were informed there were some new items available which was good, but they were not on a menu and we had to ask the waiter to find out the price and what they were served with. Some dishes were served on cold plates. There is really no excuse for that.

10/10Sunday Carvery on 2nd Feb. 2025 Booked in advance as all the tables were fully taken by 13:30. Lovely room, comfy chairs. The tables were nicely spaced out. No stairs to gain access. Waiting staff very attentive and helpful. The chef is very friendly too. As it was a carvery, self service. Good choice of well presented meats and roast vegetables. Very enjoyable for meat eaters The veggie option for one of our group wasn't happy with the nut roast. Dry and hard, no veggie gravy. Maybe a few more veggie options to keep the vegetarians happy. Quorn sausages etc. Good choice of beverages, beer and coffee. We shall return.

9/10A group of us went to the Chinese evening. The prawn crackers and plate of starters were excellent, apart from us as a table of seven getting the same size of prawn crackers as a table of four so we asked for another bowl. Also there were only five prawn toasts so we had to ask for two more of those as well. The mains were a buffet the crispy beef was very good and the sweet and sour chicken tasty, I did not try the prawn curry but was told it was good. The veg chow mein was a nice selection of vegetables and egg fried rice was served. Given the assorted flavours and sauces it would have been better with plain rice. Sweet was pineapple fritter and toffee sauce. I ate the pineapple and sauce but left the batter as it was sprinkled with sugar so was to sweet for me but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. There was no 'entertainment' but this meant we could all chat without shouting so was actually preferred by our group.

Thanks for you comments Mrs Matthews, they are appreciated. I am sorry you did not get the correct amount of items for your table, however, it appears the team arranged for additional items to be taken to your table. best wishes, Darren

10/10It was a Burn's night do and was very enjoyable. The haggis was addressed and a dram drunk. The smoked salmon starter was good but could have done with some horseradish mayonnaise to just lift it, the haggis was very tasty, with mash and bashed neeps plus extra gravy if needed. The finish was a chocolate mousse that was suitably chocolaty. There was also a singer who was very good and not to loud. A thoroughly good night out.
