Service was attentive and efficient and we enjoyed our pub grub. However, the pub was cold and we all kept our coats and scarves on and moved on to a warmer pub.

4.5/10The booking was booked with a 30% discount that was never applied. The waiting times were ridiculous and the portion dramatically small (even after asking we were assured they were abundant they are not ) the only good thing was the fish and chips. Dessert are specially bad, basically terribly overpriced. I would not recommend anyone to go.

10/10great food, excellent service and lovely christmassy vibe. don't miss a Sunday roast there, you won't regret it. very welcoming also to kids, they have a kids menu and high chairs.

7/10Not bad overall, with nice atmosphere and decent service but mixed comments on the food. Roast beef and roast chicken mains were well cooked and tasty, and reasonably generous, though the meat was quite gristly too. The burgers however were not just ‘well done’ as they seem to have to be everywhere you go, they were dry, dense and really overcooked, taking the rule to the extreme. The accompanying chips (or salad option) were good. We’d probably go back but avoid the burgers!

8/10We had a lovely family celebration in this beautiful old pub. The food was tasty and generally very good. The mushroom starter, with blue cheese & sauce was a little disappointing as there was just one mushroom and far too much sauce. The staff were pleasant but very stretched. They needed at least one more person to avoid people waiting to the point of becoming restless.

8/10Lovely old pub & restaurant. Downstairs in the bar area was busy but we had booked upstairs. Lovely room and very tastefully decorated. Roast dinner was great, though we are both gravy lovers and could have done with extra. Being British of course didn’t ask! Desert was traditional crumble which was just as good, again could done with more custard, tried to pinch my wife’s who was having none of it. Lovely bottle of wine assisted in making our lunch very satisfying.

10/10The staff were all so helpful. The chef was keen to ensure that my intolerances were met, and I therefore relaxed and enjoyed his lovely Sunday meal with my guests. They also enjoyed the beer.

10/10It was a welcome return to the Princess. The weather is terrible on the Bank Holiday but it didn't deter us from celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary where we held our reception. It was nice to see that not a lot has changed, especially downstairs where the party was held. We were looked after incredibly by two gents upon arrival. We were almost an hour early for our booking but they still welcome us to our reserved table to sit down and begin dining. And the food didn't disappoint - we both left completely full, and look forward to visiting again some day in the future.

8/10Came here for a quick Friday lunch. The server was unfriendly and abrupt. The food was served quickly, however, and it was very tasty! The server did not apply our £50 discount as we had only spent £48. They asked me to speak to a different server who was equally unfriendly. I quickly ordered a single espresso but was charged for a double espresso and given just a single. I saw it on the receipt after I had paid and made a throwaway comment on how I had asked for a single. He just shrugged and rudely turned around and left. It was such little money so I was not bothered but his rudeness took me aback.

5.5/10Last September a friend and I enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch at The Princess of Wales. I ordered the crispy belly of pork, my friend ordered the veggie Wellington; as we were impressed with the food so we decided to return for Sunday lunch yesterday (14th April), ordered the same meals and were disappointed. The pork was too salty and the veggie Wellington was overstuffed with quinoa; the vegetables were undercooked (especially the parsnips, which were almost raw). We also had to request more gravy as not enough was provided. My friend and I were surprised at the decline in standards since our previous visit last September. Maybe this was due to the fact the restaurant was busier yesterday than it was when we visited last September? Maybe the food was cooked by a different chef? Whatever the reason for the decline in quality of the same dishes, it was a disappointing experience.

9.5/10This pub had given me a big surprise on the food quality. The food presentation was not much to say but the taste was all good . The squid was extremely light, fresh and crispy , the pepper sauce and the steak was good , the lemon sorbet was smooth and refreshing. 👍
