The staff were excellent and made the 90th birthday extra special. Sadly we were the only people in for lunch time. The room seems bright, only it is very worn out to look at which makes the place depressing . Because of this I couldn’t at the food, it made me wonder what the kitchen looked like. One has to ask why no one wants to eat here. Cleaning here is also a downside, not done very well. With love and care in a refurbishment, I doubt it will work. Very sad.

We were in a secret escapes deal which included a 3 course dinner. We went to the bar for pre drinks, looked at the menu and went to our table, only to be given a dumbed down inferior menu, conjured from packets and the freezer. In all budged at about £5 per person. Anything outside this inferior menu like water, coffee or wine had a service charge of £4, No service charge for the food I noticed. In all, a complete marketing failure by the hotel in guests sampling their cuisine.

The restaurant and staff I couldn't fault. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and enough space between tables to feel private. The service was fantastic. Polite, friendly, attentive but not overly so. I had a problem with my steak being rare and not medium as requested but this was rectified immediately, apologized for and recognized in my bill. This was the only blip in an otherwise lovely evening.

My grandson has his birthday on Xmas eve and I booked for 6 at 6pm to celebrate his 9th birthday and told the restaurant 2-3 weeks ago. We started the meal at about 6.10 and the first two courses were ok but not served with finesse. The worst part though was that we had to wait over an hour for the desserts and although they had promised a selection of sweets they served the birthday boy after the first 3 desserts and gave him a bit of cheesecake. - which he doesn’t like and a card and a pad of games for a 6 year old plus they forgot his 6 year old brother’s dessert until asked and it finally arrived at 8.10 pm. It was a totally disappointing end to his birthday. We had hoped to walk down to the lights after dinner

Saturday evening, just 4 tables but the service was extremely late. Kitchen mixed up the order for dessert too and that was even worse. One waitress even spent long extra time chatting while for instance our table was to be served…

I was very upset when I turned up to the restaurant and I was told my booking wasn’t on the system. I left and came back a few minutes later and showed them that it was booked for the day then they suddenly found my booking on the system. Luckily I didn’t come from far away but never the less I think this is awful service and they should check their booking system before telling people that their booking isn’t on the system.

Staff were very friendly and attentive lamb shank and beetroot risotto were delicious my daughter loved her chicken cesar salad portion size was excellent overall very happy with our meal would definitely visit again
