Very good
Food absolutely beautiful but TINY portions. Really small helpings of veg/potatoes. Ordered a side of chips which cost £3.50, i was shocked when the waiter brought me EIGHT chips. Staff are friendly, polite, attentive.
We have eaten here a few times and every time the staff go above and beyound to look after us. The food is absolutely incredible. We adore this place so much and cant wait to go back again.
Was a special day so went to special restaurant
Food was beautifully cooked and presented. The scallops were tender and flavoursome. If I had any criticism to make it would be that the portion size is a bit small.
It was a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and the food was wonderful so much so I booked to go again as soon as I returned home.
My partner and I dined at the restaurant whilst staying at the hotel and had a 2 course dinner. I was disappointed in the lack of vegetarian options (only 2 options for both starters and mains). My starter (battered cauliflower) was very dry, with only the tiniest scraping of sauce. My main (nut roast) was dry and tasteless. My partner however had meat dishes and enjoyed his. I wouldn’t return to the restaurant unless their menu was updated as I wouldn’t order these dishes again and I didn’t like the other vegetarian option. The restaurant in itself was beautifully laid out, the waiter was very pleasant and attentive. The drinks were very expensive, I feel that there could’ve been at least one cheaper option for wine than they currently have.
We had a very nice afternoon tea. Staff were very attentive and meal delicious
I thoroughly enjoyed our day spent at the spa and hotel but there were a couple of things that could have been improved with more staff training. Following a spa treatment, we went for lunch in the restaurant and the waitress whilst very charming, consistently forgot part of our order and had to keep returning to us to be reminded. She forgot to tell the kitchen we wanted chips, she forgot what sauce we had asked for so brought out two different types, and she forgot what drinks we had ordered. Might I suggest that a pad and pen would solve this problem? Our food also took a very long time to come out, meaning we had to order another round of drinks. The food once we got it was very nice and had we been offered dessert we probably would have had one. As it happened we drove round the corner to the designer outlet and had dessert there instead.
Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea for three, excellent service and food was amazing
Lovely meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Delicious meal, beef cooked to perfection. And a sweet to die for. The staff were efficient, friendly and informative.
Lovely
We very much enjoyed the dinner, service was good and ambience very pleasant with the garden views. Breakfast on 8th Aug was tasty and reasonable service. However we were not offered toast and eventually asked about it, realising that it was not available on the continental tables. Once the toast was received only a very meagre protein of butter was delivered. The service at breakfast on 9th Aug was another matter - one lone waitress struggling to take all the orders. We waited a full 30 minutes to even receive our coffee, having waited about 20 minutes for anyone to take our order. The continental options were not replenished regularly enough. We heard the waitress commenting that 'everyone came at once'. In many hotels 9am-10am is the busiest time, but this is well known and it should be staffed accordingly. Once the food arrived it was good.
A very enjoyable meal. It is a shame there was very little desert choice and our ice cream was poorly presented i.e. A dollop in a bowl ! I can do better than that at home. Service was good although we were not allowed to have the door open and it was very hot.
I had a splendid lunch. I cannot fault the Service, the Staff or the Cooking. The wine was delicious. I went there for a taste of luxury: I was not disappointed. My niece had soup, I chose the salmon to start & we both had braised beef with mash & vegetables. The setting, the decor, the whole ambience was beyond reproach. Say as you will about Duncan Bannatyne: Oh boy, he does a good lunch.
Whilst the setting is lovely, the dining experience was no better than ok, especially for the prices being charged
Absolutely lovely. The staff were present on both consierge and in the restaurant. One of the staff wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate on the plate which was so special for my girlfriend. Thank you and we'll be back soon.
We have a brilliant time at Charlton House and felt the food was absolutely wonderful very impressed with all course
Very nice afternoon tea apart from the bread - it was hard and not just a little bit hard! I think maybe the sandwiches had been kept in the fridge but, on the plus side, delicious scones.
Food was excellent. Restaurant was very hot when in conservatory but staff were extremely accommodating and moved us out of that area into the shade. We did find it a little disappointing that some of the rooms that have been decorated have just been painted and not papered to match the look of the rest of the house. It would be such a shame if this trend continues as further rooms are decorated. I think the beautiful house will lose much of it's appeal if that is to be the case.
