9.5/10Some light gentle music on in the background would have given the pub a little more atmosphere as it was quite quiet which meant you could hear everybody else’s conversations . Lovely setting - just needed that little bit of ambience to warm it up

6/10Room tired.Loo seat looked nicotine coloured.Don’t think anything nasty but not nice. Towels not changed over 4 days. No atmosphere in entire place.Bar and restaurant devoid of customers over weekend.Staff really friendly when you could find them

6.5/10Out of the way pub. Atmosphere a little lacking but it was a quiet Tuesday night. Menu quite limited for a vegetarian. The starters were really tasty but the main course lacked finesse. Service was attentive.

5/10We had been here for lunch and it was wonderful. So we were back for dinner. The appetizers were great but there was only one veggie choice for the mains. We were disappointed.

5.5/10Chickpea/cauliflower curry had no depth of flavour and limited desert menu. Starter delicious and husband enjoyed all all of his meal. The young man behind the bar who also waited on us was polite.

6/10The best thing about lunch was the staff. They were excellent. We had not been to the Rose and Crown for a few years and were disappointed in the food. The portions seemed much smaller than before and of course the prices have increased. We were seated in the bar area next to a very noisy group of ladies and the restaurant area was completely empty. We should have asked to be moved . The food tasted ok but presentation was lacking.

7/10Love this place & our main courses were very good - but disappointed with desert. ‘Compressed watermelon’ - not sure what it should have been but probably not cubes of watermelon complete with seeds! And for £9.50. Not their usual creativity in display.

4.5/10Roast beef lunch. Swamped in a glutinous salty gravy - would be nice to choose if you would like gravy. Yorkshire pudding burnt to a crisp and inedible. One thick slice of beef which was nice beef but could have been half the thickness. Very poor value - such a shame

9/10Delightful pub restaurant in a delightful location. We went there for dinner and the food was quite excellent. The combination of ingredients & flavours of the dishes was so imaginative - it really played with your mind, giving your tastebuds a proper workout. The best meal out we’ve had in a long time. The staff were very friendly & attentive. Go there - you won’t be disappointed.

7/10This has always been a favourite restaurant when visiting Sherborne on a monthly basis, however on this occasion I felt that something was missing. The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired in our opinion. It was just under 20 minutes after being seated that we had to ASK for a drinks menu which then took another 10 minutes before we were asked what we would like to drink. We decided to give our food order at the same time, the drinks arrived 7-8 minutes later. I might add at this point there were no more than a dozen or so customers, so hardly being over run. This was exceedingly disappointing as one of the key fundamentals of a good restaurant is making sure the service is prompt and professional, say on this occasion the restaurant fell short of expectations.

10/10We were recommended by friends and we are so glad they did. A lovely pub and restaurant, the food was excellent as was the service. We also stayed the night, the room was really comfortable with a huge bed and stunning views across the countryside.

6/10The pub is in a lovely location and is very nice. Husband and I had a starter. I had the Mackerel with a strawberry stew. There was too much of the Strawberry stew in relation to the mackerel. Overall I was disappointed. Husband has the Venison spring rolls which he loved but he found the cous cous, gel and mousse too much and not pleasant. We had 3 Halibut dishes and although the dish was cooked well and lovely the sauce was overly salted. As for the desserts the Lemon Pousette was delicious. The Chocolate fondant was lovely but don't put the cherry sorbet on a hot pudding!

8.5/10Lovely pub. Really nice decor, and the beer garden had fabulous views over the countryside. Staff were friendly and service was good. They served a great set of bar snacks, the scotch eggs were delicious. My husband loved his roast beef, however my pork loin dish could have been improved - there was too much sauce which, although tasty, drowned the food a bit. However, overall we enjoyed our visit and we'd certainly go back again.

10/10As the weather was ideal for eating outside, we did and were able to admire the beautiful surrounding countryside. A good menu with options for all tastes on one side of A4 made selection easy. The service was very good, (no pressurising), and the food was served well and presented attractively.

10/10The Rose and Crown was recommended to us whilst staying in the area on holiday. The village it is situated in, is chocolate box gorgeous. The attractive pub was bustling with activity on our arrival - and this was a Monday evening. There remained a steady flow of people throughout the evening. The menu was refreshingly different, and plenty of variety was on offer. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate and although the wine list was modest, the selection was very good. We had a delightful evening there.

10/10Superb location, the R&C has a welcoming and friendly ambience with attentive and very courteous staff. Our lunch was not only delicious but unexpectedly innovative, more in keeping with a starred restaurant than a country pub. Very much recommended on all counts.

6/10Lovely pub and friendly service, but overpriced. £25 pork chop was over cooked. Crackling that I specifically asked for was just a bag of pork scratching. Cappuccino at £4 is ridiculous anywhere. My meal was edible, but simply not good enough to justify the high end price.

10/10Staff were most friendly, helpful and efficient. The menu a little limited but lunchtime at a quiet time of year, to be expected. The choices for gluten free were good for the main course but definitely limited for starters.

5.5/10Rather disappointing. Service was good but there seemed little ambition in the menu or the food itself. Dining room and the public bar were almost empty. I understand why.
