6.5/10We had high hopes for our Valentine’s dinner, and while the food was excellent especially the chateaubriand the service left us disappointed. At first, everything was great, but partway through the meal, the service suddenly declined. It felt as though our waitress had gone on a break with no one covering her section. Our plates were left sitting on the table for a long time after the mains, and we weren’t even asked if we wanted dessert we had to get up and ask ourselves. It was frustrating, especially given the occasion, and we left feeling like we’d wasted a lot of money on what ended up being a poor service experience. A real shame because the food was fantastic, but unfortunately, the lack of attention to service really let the evening down.

An upmarket Venue with ornate design, comfortable sitting and delicious meals. To me Looked like a meeting point of well-bred families whose kids study in Edinburgh university. It was fun to watch them.

10/10Excellent service from our waiter from start to finish. Allowed us to finish our coffee and drinks in the cocktail area after our 2 hour slot in the restaurant was finished. This made for a leisurely and pleasant end to our excellent meal.

The welcome, the staff and the menu. Great value. Probably had one of my best starters ever in the Langustins. The Somelier was so knowledgeable and matched our wine with the food perfectly. A fabulous location. Will definitely be back. A great team involved

10/10We were traveling to celebrate my 60th birthday. Our experience at The Spence was magical. Our waitress, Rachel was absolutely part of our experience. The food, THE FOOD, was the best we had had in a long time. The whiskey recommendation were spot on, my husband asked the names and they wrote them down and he went out and bought them they were so good. Rachel surprised me with a little chocolate mousse with a lit candle for me, we were so full we were going to skip desert. Is it pricey, yes, but totally worth the experience. Thank you Rachel, and the team behind you for making my 60th so special and making birthday dinner so special! I recommend The Spence and when we go back to Scotland we will definitely being going back!

+1I choose this restaurant as the building looked very interesting as it was a residential home and then a bank before it was bought and turned into a hotel and restaurant, we had some starters to share and my husband ordered the monkfish with chorizo and I ordered the chicken with sides as well, the starters were really good, unfortunately when the main courses arrived my husband’s fish was really cold in the middle, when we complained they offered to cook all the meal again including my dinner, they then offered us a free glass of wine and bottle of water, sometimes it isn’t just about the quality of the food but how they deal with a genuine complaint and they redeemed themselves as the food was absolutely delicious and also gave us a discount from the bill

Wow what a fabulous evening we had. Walking into the building was just the start of a wonderful night The columns ,high ceilings, marble, and more, totally wowed us as we entered. The staff were well trained and attentive and incredibly knowledgeable of the food and wine. The langoustines and scallop cervices were both out of this world. You have to go a long way these days to find fabulous food, setting and service and The Spence delivered them all. I will definitely return and have recommended to all my family and friends. An absolutely perfect evening.

10/10We think this is the best meal we’ve ever had ! Our server and our food far exceeded our expectations. Both were superb! on top of that, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We could not have had better experience to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.

10/10The Spence was amazing! Every item of food we had was absolutely delicious and the service was above and beyond. We came with two children and all of the waitstaff absolutely doted on them, and I was impressed that the kids menu had so many perfect options. I live in New York City and this was definitely on par with our best restaurants there.

9/10The Spence has one of the most attractive interiors of any of the thousands of restaurants I have dined at. Indeed it's breathtakingly elegant. My food (I shared a whole bream) was superb, although others who were at my table (we were a group of California lawyers) were satisfied but less impressed with their selections.

10/10To celebrate my wife's birthday, we paid an unexpected visit to Edinburgh. I came across this restaurant in the Michelin book. It goes without saying that the cuisine was top-notch; otherwise, they would not have made the cut. What really made the supper special, though, was the welcoming staff and the top-notch service. Everything about the evening was perfect: the ambiance, the attention to detail, the food presentation, and my wife's expression of contentment afterward. It means the world to me.

5/10Came here for my 1st wedding anniversary. The reviews were hyping this place up. When we got there, it was nice. But we got sat in a very small table and it was so loud. The kicker, I booked this reservation on The Fork and the menu they had on their app was totally different than the one we had been given at the restaurant. We came for scallops and a couple other things we saw booking the reservation. But it wasn’t on there anymore and we ended up ordering just mediocre at best food. I feel like I was tricked. Wasted money and our time. Horrible memories. Thanks For nothing.

7/10Great venue, great food and excellent music selection. The only thing that spoiled it is the current trend with some restaurants to charge a 12% service fee. It should be up to the customer to decide if and how much to tip regardless if it goes to the staff. Pay your staff more in this case and let the customer decide the tip. For this reason only I won’t be back. It’s unnecessary and annoying.

This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous , the ambiance of the restaurant takes you away in amazement, photographs of this restaurant and building cannot do it justice it is simply beautiful and leaves you in awe throughout your whole meal. Most importantly the food, being set in the heart of the ex RBS bank is one thing but the food is on another level with each dish I found myself in astonishment on how such dishes can work wonders on your taste buds for me the east coast cod was the one that made my evening it hit my tongue in all the right ways and left me begging to go back again. If there is a restaurant deserving of the highest form of regulation it is almost definitely this one.

5/10Our server was very nice but way too busy. He had no food runners or anyone to clear plates, no one helping him take care of seven tables except for when the floor manager occasionally poured wine for a table.
