Excellent meal with a delightful welcome and very pleasant attentive service
All three of us enjoyed our meals, excellent service. We’ll be back.
Absolutely excellent. Superb lunch last Saturday.
Delicious food as always
Have come two years running now for my wife’s birthday we were treated very well and the food was as exceptional as ever. Retired Head Chef Brookes restaurant Oxford.
Lovely welcome and table just as requested. Service from Tess and team was excellent and really good food too. Ambience felt warm and convivial with just enough buzz.
Excellent food and service, well done, we will be back
Our third visit to eat here and still impressed. Menu is limited but means that the kitchen prepares a few things very well. Bonus for us is accommodating our well-behaved dog in the bar area. The only niggle was the separate charge for choice of sauce with a perfectly-cooked steak. We definitely keep The Star Inn on our favourite places to eat list.
Great restaurant with a lovely ambience. Food was delicious especially the venison; beautifully tender with a really good flavour.
A very pleasant experience from start to finish with great service, perfect timing and affable staff. The venison dish was the best you'll find anywhere.
Had the duck, it was good
Excellent friendly greeting and table as requested on Open Door. Visited with very grumpy grandad and the staff were charming. All enjoyed the excellent food - even grandad (Chicken Roast).
Wonderful staff wonderful food wonderful pub thank you
We were staying at the Star so it was great that the on-site restaurant was so good. The Star is a (very smart) country pub, with appropriate ambience ( swags of hops on the ceiling, for example) but a menu which reads more like a top urban restaurant. For a Monday night the place was surprisingly lively - I think they do good business all the week - and the service prompt, friendly and attentive. When we asked about one of the wines we were straightaway offered a sample taste. I found the prospect of a starter followed by a main a bit much so I had a "bar snack" of whitebait instead, and this was perfectly cooked. I followed this with a five-spice confit of duck, again perfectly cooked (and I was glad I hadn't had a large starter). My husband had loin of venison with accompanying venison pie which he found outstanding. We both had the sticky toffee souffle which I think customers come regularly from all over England to seek out! (It was one of the reasons we came back after our visit in the summer.) The wine list was varied and not too long, and we had the most expensive red wine in the list, a brilliant claret at £59 (it was a special occasion). We certainly intend to go (and stay) again.
The Star has never disappointed. I booked a table for 4 and they accommodated 4 1/2 easily without fuss (baby sitter awol). All of the staff are friendly and professional and can sense if you need to hurry or if you’re having a more relaxed meal. The Steaks are brilliant, every meal is spot on.
Excellent and reasonably priced lunch ,staff very helpful and meal not rushed at all. Quiet but it was midweek in October. Would recommend it.
very good food and service
Excellent as always. Steaks are superb. Good wine and service is very good.
We can highly recommend this restaurant which, although quite expensive, represents good value when taken in the context of the excellent quality of the food and the warm and friendly service that accompanies it. This restaurant is special.
