5.5/10We returned to the WINDHOVER after nearly a year. How things have changed. No table service. Order at the bar but no indication that that was the way to go. 45 minutes for starters to arrive and a similar time for mains. Cold plates and lukewarm food. Somewhat cold restaurant, non effective blue temporary heaters scattered around. We decided not to stay for a sweet course. Life’s too short. We really hope that these shortcomings can be addressed and that you can return the Windhover to it’s former cosy self.

4/10Having been shown to our table it was 15 minutes before drinks order taken, one of which was incorrect. After a further delay our order was taken and starters arrived after another long delay. When our mains arrived we had been seated for 1hr 35mins! The waitress apologised saying that they had a party of 25 to serve, not our problem. If they don't have the kitchen staff to cope then they shouldn't take the bookings. Unfortunately two of the dishes were so overcooked making them barely edible. When we complained we were promised complimentary desserts. However when the bill arrived only two had been credited. We pointed out that this was not as offered and that this reduction alone was not sufficient to make up for the extreme delays and poor quality of the food. Finally at the second attempt an acceptable reduction was agreed. This was little consolation as we would have preferred to have paid the full price for an enjoyable pre-Christmas meal. Surely a management issue !

8/10We booked online for a table for 2. When we arrive we were attended to straight away. The table we were offered was very small. I looked around and there were couple sitting on bigger table so the table we were being offered was the only very small one as I could see. She said that they were really busy ( not true) but would have a look on the computer. She showed us to another table in an area that had 5 or 6 other tables all vacant. I went to the toilet and on way noticed more vacant tables. The the waitresses were neither friendly or unfriendly just doing their job I felt.We had fish and chips which was excellent. We always leave a tip if service charges is not added but my husband said not to.I did give a donation to the charity the pub was sponsoring. On leaving the premises I noticed a couple on the said table and I actually felt sorry for them it looked cluttered. It should be used for flowers only.

4/10We'd sat at our table for some considerable time before the waitress finally stopped talking to other customers. I ended up asking another waitress to ask the one chatting to come and serve us. When the food arrived it was cold. Couldn't be bothered to send it back. We will not be returning.

4.5/10We hadn't been to this restaurant since pre-covid, so thought we'd try it for my Husbands Birthday. It certainly had changed, the decor ambience etc had improved quite a lot. I do not like or eat salt, therefore when my hunters chicken type food turned up, i couldn't wait to get tucked in. First mouthful.....yuk, salty food. I had to leave it. I appreciate that food needs to be seasoned, but it doesn't need to be added after it's cooked, that should be up to the Customer if they want to add it. On a final note, the chicken was deducted from the final bill. So disappointed. :(

8.5/10Good fish and chips slightly over cooked. I had booked a table in the bar area but none was reserved. We had to clear a table before we sat down. Good staff working hard.

2/10Disappointing 0n arrival our table had not been reserved. A waiter cleared a table for us ,but just dumped several plates etc on the next table .When we tried to order we were told that they had run out of fish . Also we asked for CAMRA discount on the ale and were refused

6.5/10The staff not very welcoming didn’t tell us about the specials food good but on the bill we were charged for two bottles of wine which we didn’t have and not very pleasant when we told them! It was a lot of effort to get the bill corrected

8.5/10On arrival member of staff was quite abrupt and not very welcoming. Felt abit like we were an inconvenience even though had booked and arrived on time. We’re seated and drink order taken but this was a long time coming food then ordered snd again seemed a longish wait . Had arrived at 1.15 but not actually received food until 2.05. However the girl taking these orders was pleasant and smiling.

6.5/10Went to the windhover for our silver wedding anniversary, the garlic mushrooms to start and chocolate brownie to end were the highlights of the meal, We went early and the restaurant was not busy, ordered a glass of wine which was delivered 20 minutes later! I had sea bass for a main course, the skin was very slippery and the bed of vegetables was bland, We were asked if we wanted to look at the dessert menu we said yes, she disappeared. My husband went up to the bar to get a menu instead, should have been a special night but ended up feeling abandoned,

6.5/10We visited the Windhover for a taster evening some weeks ago and was very impressed but unfortunately tonight the service was very bad. We waited almost an hour for our starter and the main course was then another 40mins. We ordered drinks which weren’t bought to our table until the starter was finished and the wine wasn’t delivered until we had eaten our main course. Unfortunately, even though the food was ok I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

4.5/10I'm not sure what has happened to the taste and quality of food, it's almost like it's become just another place to eat . It used to be enjoyable and will probably not go again . As a family we tried a few times and it did not improve

5/10A really nice place with a nice buzz about it. The food was a real disappointment with my partners coming out stone cold, and my steak 'blue' rather than medium rare as ordered. We waited aroun 20 minutes for a replacement beef borgignon, but there was no offer to redo my steak, whuch i didn't eat. our waitress was fantastic, but seemed to be fighting off complaints from several tables, and offeing refunds. But not to us.

6/10Mediocre food at best, we ordered the Sunday beef roast, the beef was fatty and there was not much of it, the roast potatoes were soggy as was the Yorkshire pudding and the cauliflower cheese was watery plus the carrots were so over cooked as to be like a paste when you tried to cut them. All in all there was obviously no love wasted on the food which was a pity given the service was good as was the atmosphere.
