Not very welcoming. Restaurant was empty but seated us at a dingy corner table. Didn’t have the wine we ordered. Really poor food choice for vegetarians. Food was mixed - crab starter really uninspiring, but pork belly was superb. Lovely venue but poorly managed. Could be so much better. If you want to charge these prices, the whole experience has to be better.

Had to book several weeks in advance for Sunday lunch and the food didn't disappoint, it was excellent. What didn't live up to expectations was the service. It took almost 30 mins from being seated to actually get a drink and that was with us chasing twice. The table next to us has the same problem. The restaurant wasn't full, so unsure why they were so inattentive, but they were also very slow to bring the bill. Pity as the food was very, very good.

My wife and I were exceptionally I pressed with this restaurant. Food was amazing (we were so pleased we got the exact same thing two nights in a row) and the service was exceptional. We’re sad we may not have the opportunity to eat here again (we’re here in holiday). Highly recommend this place for both breakfast and dinner.

Great food. We chose the venison and pork. Would have sampled more of the menu but we were trying to fit in dinner with an RSC play. Perhaps a pre-theatre option would be great for future guests.

The experience and ambience depends on where you are seated. We did email ahead to ask if we could sit in the main dining area opposite the open kitchen but received no response. We were a table of four and the food was split, two in the party chose well and the other two were a little disappointed. The sweet breads lacked flavor and the pork was a little underwhelming. The deer was lovely.

We booked for before going to the theatre and were very clear about our limited time and this was confirmed at various stages by staff who advised on timings … unfortunately this info did not appear to reach the kitchen so we were a bit anxious about not having received our main courses at 7 pm and had to bolt our food - that said it was fabulous food which we all enjoyed

We found this restaurant on the Michelins Guide app, and it didn’t disappoint. On the contrary, the food and service was beyond our expectations. And you get to see the chef prepare the mains in the midst of the diners. It’s definitely one not to miss. We’re already looking forward to going back.

We gave up on this restaurant a few years ago when staff grew uncaring. Tried it again on Sunday and were happily surprised. Jamellia snd her team really looked after us. A joyful lunch.

No vegetarian option was actually available for the Sunday roast (despite calling ahead to ask) no gluten free dessert options on the menu either (again despite calling ahead to ask). Then after being told we would have a discount due to an accident of a full drink being spilled over one of our party by the server we were actually over charged by £84. I ended up with a plate of 1 carrot some cabbage and 3 roast potatoes and was charged £14 for the privilege! Disappointed is a massive understatement!!! Would not return.

Visited as a couple. Restaurant is small but we had plenty of space around the table. Service was attentive without being a distraction which was good. Food choices were what we had expected given the professed aim of the restaurant and any one dish could have happily been selected. The courses were full of flavour combinations that worked . Whilst additional side orders of vegetables weren't essential we enjoyed the carrots which were sufficient for two to share. Our only negative was that the restaurant was very loud. Voices reverberated around the room which has no soft surfaces to quieten the louder patrons voices. At times this made hearing the server difficult or even my spouse.

The side dishes were delicious but the steak was tasteless it was a shame because we paid a lot for it and it looked a very good quality cut but it had not been seasoned at all and even cooked completely plain it lacked flavour I would reconsider your meat supplier. Having said that the service was very good and we had a lovely evening

Starter had no much scallops. Really small and lacking of wow factor. Nothing special. Main: meat was very chewy, flavours were there but unfortunately the chewyness should not be there ( it was a special and did not taste at all as being cooked on wood). Dessert was horrendous..it was a blackforest cake interpretation where the mouse tasted rancid. We spoke to the waiter about these issues and not even a sorry was received neither a discount from our bill happened. They could see the dessert was not eaten completely and the meat on the plate could not be swallowed and the chewed bits were left on the plate Also, it was a birthday celebration which was mentioned on the booking and normally when we have said that on previous years in other restaurants, they bring the dessert with a candle or even something is given as a birthday complement. We'll not here. Ambience was flat, shame as restaurant has good deco. Operated, overpriced we felt they didn't care about us as paying customers.

When we first walked in, it felt like an experience. As we entered, the entry was like travelling down a Victotian street - quite stunning. The service was first class. As we walked in, you could smell the wood burning ovens, and the open kitchen area was calm and efficient. The food was excellent and of Michelin quality. The cost was very reasonable for the quality of local produce used. Loved it so much that we have booked a weekend break at the hotel.

4 of us went for Sunday lunch. Met by friendly smiling staff. Lovely cosy dining room nice touch being able to see your food being cooked on the flames. Food excellent and beautifully presented. Would recommend and will certainly revisit.

Arrived a little early, to be shown straight to our table, was told how it all worked, re ordering food, drinks etc. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the people @ work, really relaxed atmosphere, food was out of this world, I would personally say on par to Sat Bains in Nottm. Loved the whole experience, will deffo be back. ????
