Excellent
We had a lovely Royal afternoon tea, with finger sandwiches & a ham roll, with two scones each one fruit & one plain, they were warm, with plenty of cream & jam, then a selection of small cakes, the lemon was delicious, we could choose the type of tea, we couldn't eat it all so we're able to bring the rest home in a cake box, this was for my Mums 81st birthday, she loved the setting & the table cloth & napkins, the staff were very friendly & professional., would recommend.
Very attentive and professional staff saw to our every needs. Very comfortable lounge area where we had pre-dinner drinks before being taken through to the main restaurant. The food was wonderful and the waiting staff were very knowledgeable on the menu. Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience there and will definitely be back
We were given an afternoon tea as a gift. Booking via their website was easy. We were looked after very well. The service was prompt but not hurried and we had several top-ups of tea.
Delicious afternoon tea thank you. All cakes, scones and sandwiches were delicious. You catered for our dietary needs perfectly.
Luxurious experience with five star service. Enjoyed every moment from the sophisticated glass of wine relaxing in the lounge, to the delicious Sunday lunch served in the castle turret! Fantastic!
Excellent food and service. Does take a while to get all your plates.
lovely calm atmosphere
the staff were excellent and so friendly, nothing was to much trouble. would 100% use the service again.
Fantastic castle, luxury setting. Great food and service. Value for money. Let's you feel special whilst there due to history and character of your surroundings.
Lovely afternoon tea selection, with special diets managed very well. The setting within the hotel is atmospheric. Friendly attentive staff, nothing too much trouble.
Fantastic. Made to feel special. With champagne thought it was good value for money
Took my daughter and granddaughter for afternoon tea. It was so lovely. My 8 year old granddaughter was so happy and really enjoyed the castle surroundings. The tea was delicious and so much food. Delicious sandwiches scones and cakes and a lovely pot of tea. Only slight issue was the sandwiches, which were lovely for my daughter and myself but were an acquired taste for an 8 year old but she just made for it with scones! Lovely touch giving us a cake box to take home what we didn’t eat. Much appreciated by my grandsons when we got home
This is a lovely place to visit for a special occasion. Thornbury Castle offers a really high standard of fine dining for the price. We have visited on and off for many years; my only criticisms are that it is a shame you charge extra for vegetables (I appreciate these are an 'extra' but feel you would even be better to include them and increase the set menu price a bit). I also think it would be really nice if you had a more formal dress code in the dining room - it may be old fashioned but would just add to the experience.
We had the champagne cream tea. I was disappointed not to be asked if we had any allergies at the start. I found the scone slightly dry and had to ask if it came with cream and jam as it wasn’t on the table.
Went for afternoon tea and was excellent start to finish
Loverly setting Limited menu Simple dishes poorly presented
Staff very good but the set lunch menu, to be eaten at a table in the dining room, was less attractive than the “lounge menu”. The lounge menu was supposed to be eaten in soft seats and at coffee tables. We were “given permission” to choose from the lounge menu and eat in the dining room. Howe EE, this all seemed very strange. In previous years there were more options at lunch time to be eaten in the restaurant. Having said that, the crab linguine was dry with little crab meat, and the burger was also dry and very salty. We had to wait ages for the bread and butter pudding - but it was almost laughable how small it was after a such long anticipation. Sadly, that was our final visit to this once fine dining venue.
Afternoon Tea Experience - catered for pescatarian (removed ham sandwich and replaced with tuna). Homemade jam and scones were the favourite aspect of the afternoon tea, although there were a number of 'different' cakes that you wouldn't usually experience on an afternoon tea.
All perfect 100%
A wonderful peaceful setting. Liked that tables not crammed in. Friendly service. Especially nice scones but sandwiches and cakes of high standard, and excellent range of teas - quick to top up coffee too.
