The setting delivers calculated elegance, with staff moving in impressive choreography between tables. On the plate, presentations arrive with visual panache and technical competence, but without that elusive spark of culinary excitement. The kitchen executes familiar luxury staples correctly but unmemorably. Desserts prove especially problematic—beautiful constructions from people who seem to have never tasted the originals. All might be forgivable at a gentler price point, but Town House positions itself in territory where one expects not merely competence but pleasure. A handsome but secondary feature of a luxury hotel charging as if operating at London's gastronomic frontiers.

Waiter was very attentive and the best bit of our experience. The black cod was full of large bones, one of which I choked on. This should have been filleted properly in preparation. Broccoli, mashed potatoes and Béarnaise sauce cold. Really no excuse as we were the only ones dining at 5pm, due to seeing a show that evening. It was a real disappointing start to our evening.
