When you visit Devon’s capital, dine in the shadow of historic Exeter cathedral, or chow down at one of the many country pubs in the city’s orbit. Exeter’s a great place to shop, or you might be visiting after a day’s hiking on wild and windy Dartmoor. Either way, restaurants in Exeter are interesting and varied, and won’t disappoint.
Exeter restaurants also include a great selection of informal gastropubs. If you fancy eating pub-style, a great place to start is the Puffing Billy, a village pub just 15 minutes from central Exeter. Head chef Sean McBride and his team are passionate about locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant’s meats hail from Dartmoor and fish from the Devon fishing towns and the River Exe estuary. On the menu, look out for modern British dishes like pan fried brill with mussels and saffron tagliatelle and baked Somerset goat’s cheese, lemon and thyme risotto, courgettes and broad beans.
Moving into central Exeter, Angela’s is a top-rated eatery and 2012 Food and Drink Award winner. Menu options include immaculately and creatively presented modern European dishes whilst inside, the décor is bright, fresh and modern.
