Right by the Thames, and the majestic Blackfriars and Millennium bridges, Blackfriars and Temple offer some splendid vistas. They’re also just across the bridge from the Tate Modern, so why not cross the water for some delicious eats after an afternoon on your feet in the gallery? If you’re curious about Temple, its name dates back to the 12th century, and was home to the Knight’s Templar. It’s now home to lots of solicitors’ offices.Restaurants in Blackfriars are smart, and at the posher end, with a smattering of traditional pubs, too.
For traditional British food at its best, try Northbank. Right between Blackfriars and Temple, this eatery has some stunning river views, which you might choose to enjoy from the decked terrace. Northbank specialises in West country ingredients and accents, and guests can enjoy treats like loin of Exmoor venison with red cabbage and poached pear.
If you’re looking for some Italian-style cuisine amongst Temple restaurants, a highly-recommended choice is Refettorio, just 2 minutes’ walk from Blackfriars Tube. Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli and his team serve bold twists on classic Italian delicacies. Expect dishes like pan fried scallops with leek and chickpea purée and sweet and sour sauce.
