Known for its imposing Regency architecture, Pimlico is also the closest Tube stop to nearby Tate Britain. If you’re planning on spending an afternoon admiring Turners, then you’ll be pleased to discover that restaurants in Pimlico are ample, to soothe the weary-footed art admirer. There are some good pubs too, and the area was apparently named after a Ben Pimlico who was renowned for his nut-brown ale.Smart and well-heeled Pimlico is very central and within easy reach of London’s main stations and shopping districts.
Amongst Pimlico restaurants, you can rely on fine dining in rather grand surroundings. Traditional British menus exist side by side with a nice selection of world restaurants.
For traditional British menus in a pub setting, try the Jugged Hare on Vauxhall Bridge Road. Located in a former bank, the venue is impressively traditional, with a Victorian-inspired colour scheme based on a rich burgundy hue. On the menu, expect old-school favourites like sausage, spring onion and apple pie feature.
For French flavours, head to Bistrot on the Square, which artfully combines fine cuisine with a relaxed atmosphere. On the menu, look for special treats like crab cakes with mango salsa and microcress salad. Bistrot on the Square also does a nice line in afternoon teas.
